Gearbox fault traction reduced

Hi
in the last 18 months on 3 occasions I have had a message on the dashboard saying gearbox fault traction reduce, the car feels lighter to drive so I guess that it goes from 4WD to 2WD, then the message clear itself out and it goes back to normal drive does anyone have had this message or what it may be wrong? Haldex serviced by LR and new PTU fitted under warranty around 2yrs ago.
Thanks

It was the haldex that caused this fault on mine. Haldex pump mesh screen was about 50% blocked. Cleaned it new main filter and oil and all good.

A new battery to replace the factory fit original fixed mine for about two years and then, as per Bobupndown, above, blocked filter etc which a full haldex service cured.

All good since.

I doubt LR did a full service on the haldex; probably sucked out the oil and replaced the disposable filter.
To do it properly the pump also needs to come out and the pump filter cleaned and re-inserted.
This became more awkward on moving from the Gen 3 to Gen 4 haldex.
Only the later models with the huge flange on the haldex input shaft (like mine) you cannot remove the pump without taking the flange off, which requires the prop shaft to be disconnected and maybe the haldex taken off the car depending on the equipment you have available, Jules

I have just been through my annual "gearbox fault, reduced traction" saga. All that is needed is to fully charge the car battery and the message is gone. This must be some softwear glitch that I go through each year. If the battery is not charged the warnings progress to the the four wheel drive being deactivated. My advice if you are doing too many short journeys is to invest in a good battery charger.

Cold weather and a slightly dodgy/discharged battery and the abs pump will be slow to get up to speed and report back during startup. This leads to the HDC, special programs and 4WD not available messages. Once the engine is running those systems will be available. Give the battery a good charge (all day at least) and the abs pump will get up to speed without the engine running.

hi boss bob. this is my third year dealing with this I always charge the battery and problem gone. four wheel drive here is important as weather can be problematic. it was the forum that directed me to this issue when i first experienced it. thought I had made a mistake getting rid of my xtrail, however freelander 2 is more capable.

Not had any of these issues, but as a precaution as I am not using my FL2 much now as retired I got a CETEK STOP START charger that I leave on permanantly while car is in my garage, if you have a AGM battery it needs to be fully charged, my stop start works all the time since using the Cetek although I turn it off anyway. 2013 FL2 XS.

I would like to add, I had my Haldex service in the spring of 2017 (my spannerman) service kit from Austen,
in the summer of 2021 I had it done again by Austin at bell engineering,
surprisingly it was as dirty/blocked as much as it was in 2017.
my average mileage over that period would be 24k
proof for me this should be regular service. DAVE.

My haldex pump filter at 52k miles.

It had a haldex disposable filter change at 30k miles but I didnt take the haldex pump out then as I had the mega flange which made it awkward and I didnt have time to make a "special" tool - bad planning on my part. Jules

@jules, that's nasty! Out of curiosity, how did your matching filter look at that point?
