autobox jolt

2010 HSE auto 121k.
Twice in recent weeks i have felt a severe jolt from the autobox if i accelerate quite hard from about 20mph.
Feels as if the box hesitates and then rams into the gear.
Have tried to get it to do the same at different speeds and to no avail.
Gearbox works perfectly. totally quiet and runs perfect for the last 18 months since i bought the car.
Had all oils changed and haldex serviced just after i bought the car.
If i drive normally no problems, only happened when i gave it a bit of welly for a wee change.
Any ideas folks? Jim A

Presumably the fluid change included the tranny? Did they use the OEM fluid (Aisin is the gearbox OEM). Or at least a fluid with the proper spec...

The correct spec is either JWS3309 (early models) or JWS3324 (later models. I don't know which the 2010 model uses.

The fluid level does need to be set properly which is not as simple as filling it and checking a dipstick, but a competent shop should know that.

Also worn motor mounts will cause lurchy shifting, check the torque link next to the coolant reservoir for torn rubber, that's a sure sign. But if it has the original mounts at 121k miles, it probably needs new ones. That would explain why it only misbehaves when you get on it... the higher torque twists the engine/tranny assembly.

Fresh (proper) fluid and new motor mounts will do wonders for your shifting, I can attest.

I'd check that stuff before moving on to tranny issues such as a worn valve body.

Mine's done this about three times now, pulling away from a junction under fairly
brisk acceleration, Oils been changed on a regular basis,
So, I'm thinking as I've been driving miss Daisy since summer last year,
could it just be the auto box adaptions?
we did a short 15mile dual carriageway "dash" on Saturday so later this week
try repeat the problem, DAVE.

Dave,
I too am a gentle driver. Done all the kamikaze things years ago.
To me it is if the box dropped two gears, and this caused the jolt.

Will try again but the box is normally super smooth all the time.
Gear changes are just so perfect. Still surprised with the acceleration after 15 years on Disco autos.
Miss the D2 but love the Freely. Jim A
