[quote/] my local mechanic doesnt do gearboxes or clutches[/quote]

A mechanic that doesn't do clutches? Does he only do the easy stuff like oil changes and brakes? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Update on this issue, took it in to have two new tyres fitted by my local mechanic and for him to have alook to see if he ca pin point the leak.

He said its definately not engine oil its definately coming from a drive shaft seal or transfer box..
Its booked in for MOT and for the leak to be sorted at a different garage as my local mechanic doesnt do gearboxes or clutches

Not much of a mechanic then.
You want to find one that can actually repair a car, not just the bits he wants to do. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

He just said he doesnt do clutches, Anyway god news its passed its MOT today and its confirmed that it is gearbox oil seal gone so that will be done next week. I opted to leave it with them even though they said i could take the vehicle and bring it back, i dont fancy running out of oil in the gearbox in the meantime

Its back from the garage but seal still not done yet, its had to be a back order from Land Rover as the aftermarket seal the garage got wasnt the right one.
Another advisory was front brake disls badly scored which i couldnt believe as i only replaced them for the MOT last year and has only done 12000 miles. They put new ones on for me and i asked for the old ones so i could see for myself and i was shocked

wow- thats a lot of wear for only 12K miles.
One has to ask; were they quality discs?, Did they replace the brake pads at the same time ?? Jules

I can understand when his mechanic said he doesn’t do gearboxes, mine would not either. Said he is to old now to be humping heavy boxes about, I don’t blame him. As for getting another mechanic, it must be nice to know an abundance of mechanic that don’t charge huge sums.

Yes, definitely. when changing brake parts I always check the pins and lubricate with brake grease, and replace if corroded - but sometimes a polish will suffice. Jules
