Oil filter housing too tight

Hey folks,
I am mid first oil change on our freelander and I have come to tighten the I’m filter back on its really hard to tighten.

Pretty sure its not cross threaded and it’s getting to the point here I am scared something is going to break. It’s as tight as I dare and there is still a few more before the cap lip meets the engine.

Am I missing something?

Help!

The filter part number checks out. The old one was a bit tight to remove. And the new one is identical.

Inside the housing there feels like there is something spring loaded that is jammed if that makes sense?

Problem found!

The o ring that came with the new filter was too thick!

New filter fitted but anyone know what the part number is for the cap. I could do with a new one!

Thanks, that’s the one.

Only issue now is that the oil light is on and the top end is tapping 🙁

Obviously something else wrong.

Did you fit a genuine Land Rover oil filter or a non genuine. Mahle issued a bulletin on this subject see attached https://www.mahle-aftermarket.com/media/me..._2d_en.pdf

You need to check the operation of the oil pressure relturn value.

Genuine filter about £10 so worth using.
The problem (in my opinion) is that manufacturing tolerances may not be fully adhered to with non-genuine Shocked

Don't run the engine for anything more than 5 seconds with the oil pressure light on, as bearing damage will be caused very quickly. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. My daily driver.
Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE.
