Axle Stand Orientation

I'm using an axle stand using position 2 in the photo.

I have set it so that the horns of the stand go into the two holes in the chassis; which seems intuitive as they're the right size.

BUT this puts all the weight on one small strip between the two holes. Should I be turning the stand 90° and ignore the holes? Freelander 2 2010 [MY2011] FA 2.2 TD4 XS

Turn the stands by 90°, as the metal isn't thick enough to support the weight on those tiny contact areas.
I use rubber pads on the top of stands, to prevent the stands from damaging the underbody.

The holes are there to lock the vehicle in the manufacturing cradle, not for axle stands. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. My daily driver.

I put blocks of wood between axle stand and chassis support 2.

Where do people put axle stands if they are lifting the rear ? Jules

I jack mine up then put stands ( large blocks of wood ) under the jacking points 1 2009 FL2 S now gone

Blocks of wood have a lot going for them, and I use them myself too.

The rear is lifted from the rear diff support cross member with a trolley jack.
This leaves the side jacking points for support with axle stands, or stout (not end grain) wooden blocks. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. My daily driver.

I use blocks of wood and axle stands in the number 2 position on both the pictures above. I don't trust the cill jacking points and my axle stands don't fit on them.

In the number 2 positions the Freelander feels to be very secure. I have a large trolley Jack which I lift with in the central position. Once lifted, I lower onto the axle stands, then I put the jack back up until it just touches but doesn't take any weight off the axle stands. That is then just there as a backup.

Once the wheels are off, they go under the sides with an off cut of sleeper on top, as an additional backup.

I use the same blocks of wood each time on top of the axle stands, the first use is worse as the axle stands bite into the lower side, once they've shaped themselves, they don't budge though.
