Absolutely certain these were mooted by Michelin a very long time ago, I think they were called wheelies or something like that (it was that long ago!)

I have just bought a new 'puncture proof' wheel for my wheelbarrow.

It seems to use the same internal structure.

TBH I think that puncture proof wheel is just some kind of polymer tyre on a plastic wheel, there doesn’t appear to be any type of suspension system. Regards

Unfortunately I have thrown away the original packing, but if you can enlarge this picture of the packing you can see what appears to be the internal structure of a series of radial filaments connecting the tread to the wheel.
Similar, but simpler, to the car tyre.

The military tried them out in the 70s but they experienced problems with them overheating. They also tried a version that would maintain its integrity if it was hit by gunfire.
