United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Orkney Grey
GPS signal repeater

Hi all,
I've recently become the new owner of a 2014 FL2 Metropolis. I have a dashmounted caravan satnav, but the GPS signal in the freelander is virtually non-existent, presumably due to the heated windscreen acting as a Faraday cage.
I looked into buying a GPS repeater, but discovered that OFCOM have declared them illegal in the UK. My next idea is to somehow split the GPS signal to the OEM satnav and install something inside the windscreen to give me a decent signal inside the car. Any ideas on how to achieve this (if it is even possible), or other ideas gratefully received.

I had a dash cam with gps installed on the darkened area next to the rear view mirror. This is normally left transparent to rf radiation (gps and radio signals) so that tags used for tolls will work. The gps resolution was good enough to see which side of the road I was on. The camera itself looked below the darkened area, just in case someone thought that it wouldn’t see through the obscured area.

Same here, heated windshield blocks the GPS signal.

There are some GPS repeaters on Aliexpress and some cables that you can buy to derive the car antenna as the source for the repeater but I've never done it myself. Freelander 2 2014 SD4 Automatic HSE Fuji White

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Rimini Red

The GPS signal on my phone (I like Google maps) is fine on my heated screen equipped freelander 2.
Oddly the GPS signal is rubbish (same phone) in the wife's VW Eos, which doesn't have a heated front screen. Big Cry 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Just an update, I bought one from Aliexpress and it is working perfectly.

Left the antenna near to the tailgate and the repeater behind the cellphone mount using a tape, it needs power so I left it plugged in the power outlet.

Works perfect for my iPhone X, no signal loss at all! Freelander 2 2014 SD4 Automatic HSE Fuji White
