SatNav updates, new supplier XL Navigation

Anyone who watches the UKPowerful videos on YouTube may have seen Simon recently updating the SatNav Software/Maps on his Nissan truck.

I did not recognise the company who supplied this update so I asked if they can supply for a Freelander. They have been in contact with me and confirmed that they can supply both the DVD and USB versions, and they have advised some background information on both systems.

1) DVD update for 2006/12 vehicles – this is based on the 2019/20 data/maps. This is the system was used by Ford/Volvo/JLR/Mazda/Subaru and probably a few more. This will be the last update available as there is no one intending to release newer maps. JLR have not sanctioned an update for a number of years, suppliers are using either the Volvo or Mazda updates and repackaging it for JLR vehicles.

2) USB update for 2013/16 vehicles – this is based on the 2020/21 data/maps. The company that produces the map data is HERE and further updates may be available but nothing is scheduled for 2022 as yet.

They trade mainly on eBay but the Freelander updates are not currently listed in their eBay store so you need to go directly to them 07895 727419 – because they are not paying the eBay fees if you go direct, you may get a reduction in cost.
They are sending my (USB) update today. They have been very helpful and fast regarding the supply, and I would recommend anyone looking for an update to contact them. They have told me that they are happy to support owners club/groups. MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black

Would be interested to hear how long the USB takes to upload. I bought an update a few years ago which had a load time of 4 hours which is fine if you have facility to leave the car ‘live’ at home in the garage or such like. I don’t have that so had to leave the upload until we drove to Wales on holiday.

Perhaps not ideal, especially for those of less well equipped with patience, but doesn’t the USB update simply pause and resume in line with the car’s asleep and awake cycles?

Mine is still the original version - lots of stuff changed, roads missing etc so interested in this update….

They gave me a "special" price because I contacted them through the UKpowerful Youtube video, if you call them and tell them that you saw a note from me on the Freel2 forum site they might match the same price ( I have been asked not to say what I paid) MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black

The update will start and stop and then restart but it does take about 4 hours in total - why so long I have no idea. I have a three hour trip to do next month (a meeting at a brewery) so I will run the update during this trip, I have a TomTom or iPhone also which I can use for the journey. MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black

Just rang the guy, the USB version is £99.99. Apparently the JLR licence is 75% of that.

I will stick with my phone nav as I cant justify £100 on something I don't need and very rarely use. Jules

Nothing special if it's £100 as that's the same price (delivered) as SatNaviShop which has been around/used by lots of people (myself included). Plus they're £10 cheaper if you're prepared to download it and use your own USB stick.

I would if it was say £30 as my wife uses it occasionally.

But as most of us have much better Sat Nav in our smart phones at a fraction of the cost I wont be bothering.

Having said that the FL2 sat nav is better than the one in my old BMW which only searched on the first part of post codes Confused I didnt bother using that much either. Jules

I have the update as well. I particularly like the “off road” maps. And with “trace on” able to follow my route in, on the way out.
It is much more convenient and useful to use this feature than using either my garmin watch…. or the rediculous gmaps…. which require an internet connection. Some of the places I travel I only receive a gps signal. Guy Pensa

Thats why I use Osmand; because it only needs GPS and can run my own GPX routes. It was great when we toured parts of Oz and NZ Jules

hello, in Italy we are able to update the maps of the 2013 restyling, but I must have access to the internal hard drive.

The idea of replacing the HDD with SSD/CF card adapter - super cool! This reminds me of the times when people did similar thing to their old iPods Smile
