Morning everyone. We have a set of 7mm Goodyear Wranglers on the back axle and are looking to get 2 new tyres to put on the front axle. What I would like to know is what the tyre tread depth is of a new Goodyear Wrangler to know what difference will be so we don't do any drivetrain damage to the car. Thanks.

If you Google your question you will come up with the full specs of any tyre.

This says 11/32" (8.7mm) is the tread depth when new.

Most tyres are about 8.5 mm new.

the FL2 is good but its not that clever it will notice,

then I noticed you have a Td4-e so not even sure its 4 wheel drive anyway, thought they were only front wheel drive



and .... dont forget your spare wheel it would really like to be used in rotation if possible ?

I have just been looking at a FFRR and the spare matching alloy had a brand new, never used wrangler,
but with a DOT code 2007 14 years+ old not sure I would want to use it that old

I can certainly say after paying the bill for a Haldex unit that it is 4WD. Thanks for the reassurance.

Differing tread depths on the front and rear won’t affect anything on your FL2 . It is not full time fixed All Wheel Drive . Most of the time the majority of the drive is through the front wheels with the rear percentage adjusting / kicking in as required , or as you have selected on the Terrain Response system . The fronts will always wear faster than the rears . I always rotate all vehicle tyres where possible , front to back ( and diagonally if they are not directional ) with the aim of trying to replace a full set of tyres , rather than pairs . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I'm hoping to eventually be in the position where the tyres are wearing down evenly. Unfortunately the previous owner didn't worry about that. I thought having too much of a difference in tread depths makes the car think there is wheel slip therefore engaging the Haldex and rear drive prematurely and then damaging the drive train?

I have just had 2 new Avon’s fitted on the front due to the walls cracking,the rears were fitted some time ago (same make) and have 5 mill remaining it has made no difference to the vehicle.I Remember reading that the Fl 1 would be affected with different tread depths but not our vehicles.

I've had 2 new Goodyear Wranglers fitted to the front and they have 9mm tread brand new. So with 9mm on the front and 7mm on the back I should be OK of there was an effect. It'll also mean I won't have to swap them around for a while until the fronts wear down.

TD4_e = 4WD / eD4 = 2WD

I knew there was an "e" in there somewhere
