First thing to check would be if the correct glow plugs were fitted. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Hmm they should be fine, the glow plugs were changed at a local maintenance shop that does only LRs, not by me |

There are 2 types of glow plugs, 12 Volts for the earlier cars, and 5 Volts for the later cars. Yours should be 5 Volt plugs, so if 12 Volt plugs were fitted, they'll not get hot enough to be of any use, hence the rough starting when cold. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Not too sure how they can be tested in situ. Access seems to be the issue. This has been discussed on here before. The 5 & 11 volt systems are totally different. Even if they can be tested in situ ( resistance ), how would that prove that the correct voltage glow plugs have been used? Perhaps the two different glow plugs have a different resistance value, though I have not come across that info whilst doing my homework.

The plugs in mine will most likely be the original ones so should be correct, no idea what test he will do on them but he knows his stuff |

The 5v glow plugs need a 10mm socket
