2010 HSE auto TD4
Just being curious.
Why is their such an insistence to use genuine LR fuel filters on this engine?
There are plenty of good filters out there, not cheap, but by excellent manufacturers.
The engine is used by different car builders so just why such an insistence on LR filter.

Seems to be multiple reports of poor running issues, resolved by the fitment of genuine filter.
Landrover obviously don't manufacturer filters themselves so they will have a supplier, or suppliers of these who make them, along with their own branded aftermarket items, in the same factory and put the branded items in LR boxes. If you knew for certain who made them you could buy the aftermarket item but with a full set of genuine LR filters available for £69 it's hardly worth shopping around. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

An awful lot of owners have had issues with fuel filters collapsing internally.

Problem is even if you do buy a reputable brand how do you know that it's a genuine one (of that brand) and not a copy - there are a lot of convincing copies out there. Even reputable suppliers have been caught out.

A set of genuine ones from Duckworths (site sponsors) aren't expensive, and you know it's a fit and forget job.

These once upon a time were expensive cars, they are never going to be cheap to run - cheaper yes, but never cheap. If you are going to cut corners for a couple of pounds it generally bites you on the speaking from very bitter experience. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I also use only genuine filters and agree with previous posts.
For me it is also about having a vehicle that runs as it should so using specific filters designed for that engine by the manufacturer of the vehicle.

TBH- if you are looking for other filters it suggests you may service yourself, so if this is the case you will save lots of money not paying labour charges which you can divert to best filters etc for the vehicle!

With defenders i used to read lots of posts about rough running and engine issues and most (not all) did not have genuine filters used so my conclusion is this in the long run may not be good for engine.

From what I have read somewhere on here genuine fuel filters have a thermostat in them and non genuine ones do not something to do with temperarure of the fuel being sent back to the tank?? 2013 FL2 XS.

After 17 years of Disco1 and 2 the Freely is great.
I fully intend to fit a LR filter anyway, as before was just being curious.
Not getting the mpg i thought i would get.
At present most of my driving is very local, 5 mile runs 10 or 15 and getting round about 22mpg
Although i give the car a decent run occasionally and last Saturday got 31,4 over a 70 mile run, mixed dual carriageway and some really twisty country roads round Loch Lomond.
getting to enjoy the FL2 experience

ive always used mann fuel and oil filters from euro car parts , never had a problem.

it really does depend on driving style.
around town <3 miles = 22-24mpg
to work 40 miles 30 of which motorway but late = 28-32mpg
from work leisurely 42-48mpg, best ever 52mpg for the same run

Dragging a 1.4tonne kite at 75mph = 18mpg, 55mph = 28mpg

I think the biggest problem is not changing the filters regularly I have used genuine + non genuine & never had a problem but I replace the fuel filter every 12,000 miles max.

Change mine every other service, ie every 20k miles. No issues yet. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I picked up two when i decided to change out my fuel filter, one was a Cooper Fiaam, which was a Pureflux the other landrover LR001313 also a Pureflux in a plain box

The one i removed was a Mann filter and it worked great from when i purchased the car 2017 to getting round to changing the filter out 2020

I only changed it out because i was changing the manifold to a none swirl one, and also did not know how long it had been on anyways.

As Jules said Pureflux fuel filter. That is what was fitted when it left the factory. You can just buy one in a Pureflux box, or you could pay more for a Pureflux filter in a Landrover box.  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.
