Is there a definitive reason for clunking on slow corners?

I have a 2010 FL2 with 80,000km. The rear diff and haldex were replaced under warranty at 10,000km.

I'm finding that the car starts to bind and clunk when cornering at low speeds which is getting so bad the car jolts when it happens. In the past 2 years (12,000 km) I've had the haldex oil and filter replaced 3 times which seems to sort it for about 4000km before it starts happening again.

I'm hearing mixed reports about the cause, some say it's a poor quality bearing in the diff and some are saying the Haldex is on the way out. A friend with the same model has never experienced this, he tows a boat and only takes it for scheduled servicing. He has never knowingly had any part of the drivetrain serviced.

What's playing up here? Haldex or diff?

Have you checked the steering. Just had the rego done & the mechanic 'found slight play in steering rack'. The clunk has been there since day one.

428 km in 2021 & 800 km 2020. This year triple digits if lucky! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Yep. Definitely sounds like the Haldex Clutch packs are worn and close to failing. The normal oil and filter change interval on Haldex units is in the tens of thousands of km. Each time we do an oil and filter on our Haldex it runs smooth for about 5000km before needing another oil and filter change.

Definitely sounds like the Haldex needs replacing. Problem is I'm in Australia. Bell Engineering sound like the place I need.

So to answer my own question: whining sound is diff bearing. Clunking and binding is Haldex.

Now to try and get one sent to Sydney.

Are you just changing the oil each time?

Have you tried taking it off altogether and stopping it down to clean it all out?

Have you cleaned the pump filter as well as replacing the other filter?

Have you watched all the plates down and reassembled?

But have they cleaned the internal haldex pump filter. I doubt it.
Quick test
Unplug the haldex unit (from under the car) or remove the fuse to it. You will get a temporary warning on the dash. This should disengage the haldex. If the clonking disappears then its the haldex unit that's playing up. If it doesnt then it could still be the haldex but also something else. Jules

Fuse FB6 in boot next to your spare wheel - as per this diagram. Pull that to disable the Haldex Current driveway contents:
