Anyone fitted a foxwing or batwing 270° awning?

I've already got an Oztent RV5 and previously borrowed a foxwing many moons ago when I had a Disco3. Has anyone fitted one to a Freelander? I'm leaning towards Batwing due to the better construction, built in legs and better packaging/cover - but not sure if a full length 2.4M one (which will zip to front of the awning on the RV5) is going to be too long for the Freelander.

That said, the Compact at 1.9M will likely prove too small to be worth deploying, but it will zip to the side of the front awning, so there is some compatibility there.

Anyone? Current driveway contents:

Thanks for the pic and link. Leaning towards the shorter awning - I think the front overhang on the longer one will be too much. Current driveway contents:

LR, through Khyam, offered a Day Tent. Then 3 different Tunnels, for RR, for Disco 3 and FL2

ill be getting an awning for mine shortly, but will probably go for just the straight side awning ( 2m x 2.5m) from Direct 4x4 due to cost.

I believe if you go for more than 2m length the overhang over the windscreen is approximately the .5m so quite substantial. So 2m is about the most viable.
I did have a 2m x 2m on my D4 and that went from boot to top of windscreen (allowing room for the boot to open) so anything more on a Freelander will look like an inflight refueling pole IMO Laughing

That's pretty much where my head was at re. the "probe" look Whistle Rolling with laughter

Now need to decide if a 2m batwing is worth the premium over a square one. Being that bit smaller than the full 270 awnings the benefit becomes a bit more marginal. Current driveway contents:

Batwing and Foxwing are both 270deg canopies, so come all the way around from one side of the car across the tailgate.

I fitted a 270 degree awning just a few weeks ago.
It's 2.4 metres long when stowed.
The rear sits just in front of the tailgate and the front extends about halfway over the windscreen.

Rookie lesson - ALWAYS use the guy ropes. These form a big sail and even a slight breeze can get under the canopy and flip the ridge poles over the car, snapping the hinge pins. Don't ask me how I know.

I took off our ARB awning while not traveling. The last trip, for 3 months didn't use the awning once. Previous trip also for 3 months only used it a few times, but needed it for the mosquito enclosure.

I'm not sure if we will put it back on unless traveling in Kakadu etc. Another 12kg off the roof rack is something I wouldn't argue against!

Tie the awning down properly, it doesn't take much wind to break an awning & damage the car while at it.

Taut-line hitch knot works very well & saves pointless gadgets. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Cheers for the pic Jeff Bow down

Think on balance I'll probably for for the smaller one as and when I get one.

Lightwater, you make a good point re. weight. I'm not going to be overlanding in the way you do, with the need for lots of water, two spare wheels etc but we'll still likely have a fair load on and in the car so I need to take that into account. Current driveway contents:
