Some Advice

I am looking for some advice and a point in the right direction?

Our FL2 SD4 HSE 2011 with massive LR service history and no expense spared just broke its crankshaft!!!!

Anyone know if there are any dealers that would be interested in buying it? I need to buy a replacement run-around until funds allow another LR replacement, as the next day my D4 had oil in then turbo and a costly repair. Been a touch unlucky it seems.

If you know a dealer that may be interested it would be great to have your advice. Inside it is immaculate, with an upgraded premium leather, ebony dash, diamond? alloys.

Thoughts appreciated - we are near Taunton.

Sorry to hear of your problem, I have not heard of this before on the forum.

I notice that your previous posts referred to a broken Camshaft.

If it is the crankshaft, please can you tell us a bit more about how it happened.

Good luck in finding a buyer, perhaps try ebay with a fixed minimum price, or these Cars for Repair or Spares sites.

Hi Ian,

Yes everyone seems surprised including LR garages. The vehicle just cut out and would not start (wife was driving). There as no noise, no indication at all at this major fault.

RAC diagnosed fuel pump. When at LR specialist who has always serviced it, their fault reader showed broken camsaft. LR want around £6k approx, found a company who rebuilds LR engine, close to £3.5k without any other external parts that need replacing.

Unfortunately, with investing heavily in our business and the D$ bill of £4k, funds do not allow repair. Thanks for messaging back and advice

Never heard of a broken crank on a Freelander 2. Of the 2, the Discovery 4 would be the one you'd expect that sort of problem with.
You've have a poor run of luck, hope you get sorted and mobile soon. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I guess the question of a dealer buying it is going to hinge on what you realistically expect to get for the car.

What sort of mileage had it done when the unfortunate failure occurred? Current driveway contents:
2021 V60 Cross Country B5
2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

Really sorry, either typo, age or predictive text.

It is the Camshaft that broke, apologies

Had done 106,000 miles, full LR servicing, just unlucky.

You to see you a lot on D3 forum NoDo$h, when I had a couple of D3's.

Providing there is no damage to the pistons or valves the changing of one camshaft should be reasonably cheap, in theory not much more than a cambelt change, even if the head is removed to inspect both the pistons and head. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The D3s have long gone, as have the Defenders as our needs have changed over time. The family transport is now a Volvo V60 Cross Country while my daily driver is a Merc C300 Coupe.

I'll likely be over here a little more as I'm about to replace the 3rd car in the drive (Freelander 1 aka the Dog Bus) with a Freelander 2. Nothing new or shiny, just a good honest FL2 for some light towing, to get me onto shoots without getting stuck and to sling wet dogs into. Current driveway contents:
2021 V60 Cross Country B5
2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

That makes more sense. Several threads on here about it. May well be repairable. Jules

Which one? It has two.

One is driven by the cambelt, the other by a chain from the first one. Jules

2011 HSE retails @ about £10K so trade £7.5 to £8K less repair cost say £2.5 to £3k so if you are lucky you may get £5.5K, a private sale could get you £6 to £7k if the buyer knows what he's doing and checks out the car and repair costs are about £1K plus his free labour as it's for him and not a trader. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
