Right will stick with that as that is what she came with. Now one other question. I went to my local garage, who are usually competent, to ask for a price to change the fluid. Was met with oh my maybe a bit specific for us. They said it does not have a drain plug, which I believe is incorrect. Looking in the Haynes manual does not look that complicated so long as you can measure the oil temp. I remember doing a Jag many years ago and just stuffed a thermocouple attached to a multimeter into the fill hole. Am not sure how long this would take a garage to do.

I would stay away from that garage. If you cannot find a LR specialist, a Volvo or a Toyota dealer/specialist may be able to help. Similar boxes are fitted to XC60 for example. The garage is right in that you cannot drain ALL the fluid, only about 3-3 1/2 litres where the box holds about 7 litres. You can either replenish using the dump & fill method which I have described elsewhere or find a competent specialist who has the equipment to do a full flush with the engine running. Not experienced that myself though.

What they said, unless they worded it wrongly is that it has not got a drain plug. Patently incorrect. A couple of independent LR guys nearby will give them a call.

Bogart, forgive me, I wrongly assumed you had actually read previous posts referring to Auto Box replenishment. If you read my (very much) earlier post:

https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic28619.ht...arbox+oil,

you will see references and photos to gearbox drain plug, level plug etc. Doing so saves the need for new questions that have been answered many times before.
Try taking a read and also doing your own search, you will find the auto box has been covered several times over! Thumbs Up
