Obtaining a new key fob and programming

Hello all on the forum, Unfortunately I have mislaid one of my key fobs and the thought of losing the only one left is a little daunting, I have priced up a new fob and replacement key blade at the dealer and combined the cost is slightly below three hundred quid including vat, plus their diagnostic re programming of the keys which is quite an expensive new key.

So my question is does anyone know how I can get the new key programmed not spending a fortune at the dealers, although purchasing the key blade plus the fob as a factory part from the dealer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try and get a quote from an independent, will probably be cheaper.

Just had one done for my Son's 2007 XS. Local guy came out and did it at his house, took him 15 minutes. Supply and program to the car was £150 all in. only thing that wasn't done was cutting of the blank blade. Key fob looks identical to the LR one and outwardly looks to be of a similar quality. 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep
