It's a bit tacky; is that the main hooter, or just a gimmicky 'tooter' geared at cyclists?

If you look just to the left you can see the 'Horn' symbol towards the centre of the steering wheel.

I like the prominent central 'Hazard Warning' switch, I always find the FL2's switch hard to find in a hurry.

Not sure that I like the Aircraft Instrument inspired layout of switches on dashboard and overhead, looks impressive but again the right one may take some finding and could distract your eyes a long way off the road.

Overall the vehicle does seem well thought out with all it's external fixing points. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

agreed - its in a really stupid place and hard to see - should be on the steering column IMO or at least in a standard position Jules

Personally I feel the hazard switch is in the right place, where either front seats can activate it.

2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Mauritius Blue

Got to say I am liking this more and more, the whole concept appeals to me, a modern workhorse but kept as basic as possible in this modern world.
Not sure if I'll be in the position to buy new anytime soon (never say never) but definitely something I would consider as a 2nd or 3rd owner.
Look forward to reading more about this as time goes on. Andrew

Part of my vehicle's response fitment was a similar bull horn as fitted to
SECAM ambulance service = DAVE.

Yes now that was a good design.
But on the 2014 model they put as far from the driver as possible - down on the left of the centre consul, and made the button "blend in" by making it the same shape and colour as the other grey buttons. During the day the red triangle is barely visible.
For an emergency, "easy to find" safety button it is an very non-ergonomic design.

I dont know if JLR swapped the button around on LHD cars just to make it as bad for all drivers. Jules

Thanks Jules, exactly, and what makes matter worse, in the name of making a nice looking button layout, the MY2014 FL2 has a matching 'triangular symbol' marked switch next to the driver to allow for ejecting the CD.

an example of artistic design winning over function!

See Page 228 of this handbook (be aware it is a reverse image LHD car) and so swap switches 13 and 20)

After recently experiencing the 'confusing' menu driven virtual switches in a Evoque, I was glad to get back to my real switches in my FL2, therefore it should come to no surprise that I think that the Grenadier switchgear looks great and functional.
