May 2011 FR2

Hi all, apologies if i've missed a comment that answers this but would my May 2011 FR2 ED4 GS have the swirl flaps?

I ask its coming up to 120,000 miles and doesn't have good history between 50K and 95K when i got it ..

many thanks all

Most likely it has - but sure way is remove top cover and look for vac valve (circled) on left side of manifold (looking from front of car)

In the near future I'm going to swap my manifold for a de-flapped one.

Can anyone tell me the size of the security torx bit that fits the screws that hold the ally housing to the manifold?

I bought a set of bits, but none fit...!

Thank you

Do you mean the engine mount? Do you have an image of the part?

It's the bit between the throttle valve and the manifold, the bit where the EGR pipe joins. It's screwed to the manifold with 4 torx security screws.

If can ever work out how to add pictures...

Just checked for you mine is a T30 Torx Bit. That is on the throttle body to inlet manifold.

Thank you, the T30's (3 off) are between the two alloy parts. The ones into the plastic manifold itself (4 off) I have now found out are the 5 pointed torx security type.

More shiny new kit to buy...,

This seems very poor if they can break off & the damage that can be done.

An expensive car that can suffer such a design fault is rather worrying. 2014 Freelander 2 HSE Orkney Grey. Now sold.

I keep pushing the escape button but I am still here.

I found those Torx bolts were not very tight and unscrewed quite easily with some mole grips.

I did find a set of the 5 pointed drivers for not too much money, so they have been added to the tool kit Very Happy

Manifold (and glow plugs) now replaced.

Would recommend new seals, as a few of mine had let go which made for a slightly messier job...

Hi , Regarding swirl flaps , I have removed them , the 2007 had 135k miles and all was ok , Maybe it had been cleaned or replaced before my ownership . I removed the flaps (eventually ) and did away with the brass rod , re-assembled everything and blanked off the vacuum pipe before reattaching it . I agree with the previous post , buy new seals and glow plugs , as it would be difficult to replace the glow plugs with the manifold in place .

p.s. The glow plugs came out very easy, they had a white substance on the threads , I was told ceramic paste is recommended . If this is correct - I will use it in the future !

pps . I sold my td4 today , I am craving another , it's gone 4 hours seems like 4 months Big Cry

Wanted 2011>2014 >80k miles, fsh, automatic , prefer not black
