Diesel Injectors.

I have a VW Caddy 2016 Maxi 1.6TDi, it has an injector fault on cylinder 3. I guess it needs replacing as its open circuit & going into limp mode if trying to drive.

I have looked about for the price & availability of a replacement but am a little confused, I have seen new ones for £1060- £500- £135 & plenty of prices in between those amounts, why is 1 at £1060 & another at £135 what am I missing ???

I have also read that when the injector goes its usually the electrical part in the injector that fails & cannot be replaced, why are there so many refurbished injectors about if this is the case. Totally confused with all of the above. 2014 Freelander 2 HSE Orkney Grey. Now sold.

I keep pushing the escape button but I am still here.

My son has a Caddy and says the 1.6 injectors are a fortune and fail prematurely compared to other vehicles, he has a 1.3 or 4 which are cheaper but fail just as frequently my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The van has 100,000 on the clock & one has been changed before I got it so I suppose not too bad. Its just the variation in the prices I dont understand & the fact refurbed ones are for sale when from what I have read they cant be refurbed ??? 2014 Freelander 2 HSE Orkney Grey. Now sold.

The injectors will have a mechanical element and electrical element.
The mechanical part wears - high pressure fluid going through an orifice will wear the orifice in time.

So replacing the worn mechanical part = refurbished.

The electrical section on the other hand is probably encapsulated in resin, this reduces the likelihood of damage, but when it does fail it is scrap. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I had a quote from my local motor factor supplier today for a Remanufactured injector. When I asked what that meant he said everything apart from the body is discarded & renewed so as new. He also said a refurbished injector would probably still use the electrical part of the injector if it was tested & found to be ok & just the mechanical parts would then be replaced. 2014 Freelander 2 HSE Orkney Grey. Update on this, Fitted the remanufactured injector into my car.

Started ok & runs pretty much as it did before but ticking/tapping noise that I did not have before, idling no noise but engine seems a little uneven. Driving at say 60 cant hear the noise but slowing down to stop I can then it stops altogether on tickover.

Injector has a 2 year warranty but this ticking/idling uneven running is worrying me a little. 2014 Freelander 2 HSE Orkney Grey. Now sold.

I keep pushing the escape button but I am still here.
