Netherlands 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 Sport Auto Barolo Black

I have them since spring 2019, still looking fine. Have a set of winter tires so only 1 summer of real use. 2020 the car was standing still most of the time like is is now. I did not swap them, they are still on the original corners. I am happy with them, no regrets.

However had a rethink. I have always found the steering too light and floaty ( although my daily drive is a Defender!) Yesterday had some work done at my local indie and they lent me a 2008 model HSE with 197000 on the clock. It drove very well and the steering seemed weightier and more pleasant for me.
It was running General Grabber AT 235/65 .17 so I wonder if the tyres could make a difference for me? The Grabbers weren't noisy and the car handled very nicely ( for a FL 2 that is !)
Anybody got views on All terrain tyres for normal motoring?

I run ATs all the time, have done for years. I don't notice any draw back regarding handling or noise. Predominantly on tarmac and plenty of long towing trips in France. Longevity is brilliant. My Freelander is a do it all family vehicle I fit do it all tyres. No complaints. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Bought mine elsewhere but Thumbs Up for the CCs - had them previously on my Subaru Forester hence my choosing them ahead of the Scorpions

My 2014 14 is on its original Goodyear Wrangler HPs, date code 0914, has 25k on the clock and 4 to 5mm tread left. With my low annual mileage, 5k, I am expecting a couple more years out of them. LR2 SD4 GS

Another vote for Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season tyres.
They are the latest LR factory fit and I find them responsive on the road, and quiet when fast cruising on motorway.

I had Pirelli Scorpion Verde on previously and their rate of wear seemed better than Continentals that both my FL2 were supplied with originally..
The 'Zero' tyres have better wet grip figures than the (designed for economy) 'Verde' tyres. - In my part of the country it rains much, much, more than it snows.

Personal preference of course - I change caravan tyres at seven years old bug I have never had car tyres last anything like that long - but there are lots of differing opinions on when otherwise serviceable tyres should be retired by virtue old age. A couple of examples:

Continental Tyres wrote:

All tyres (including spare tyres) more than ten years old should be removed from service and replaced with new tyres.

Tyre Age when buying new tyres
Tyres are considered to be ‘new’ and are suitable for retail sale for, up to 5 years from the original date of production with recommended storage guidance from tyre manufacturers.

I change my caravan tyres at 5 years which is what is most often recommended. Some say (no, not describing the Stig here) that 7 is the maximum age for caravan tyres. I've seen and heard of too many caravans having blow outs causing inconvenience or at worst complete destruction of the van. Don't fancy that happening, or taking a risk that it might, it would be a terrible way to end a holiday. Small price to pay for peace of mind. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Looks like General Grabbers are not available in my size 235/60/R18. That's a pity. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

According to Blackcircles they do. Maybe not a common size but I'm sure could be ordered? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

As a new FL2 owner I am very interested in this topic.
Probably need to fit tyres for the winter
On my Disco ,s I just fitted chinese tyres as per the tyre company. 50 k miles on first set and sold the car with only 4K on last set with negligible wear. Appreciate the front wheel drive will, cause more wear but the thought of replacing tyres at 17k miles horrifies me. When the time comes I will probably go for an all year round tyre.
