Bluetooth in car only saves one phone pairing

I wonder if anyone has a view on the following;

I have a 2007 HSE with Bluetooth enabled. I can only get one phone at a time to pair despite apparently being able to pair up to 5 devices per the manual. Initially I couldn't get either of my two phones phone to pair until I removed the iPhone that the previous owner had paired. Then I could pair one but not two. I've paired both individually so the problem doesn't seem to be a duff phone.

Another issue is that neither phone (a Galaxy S4 and an S5) seem able to copy their contacts to the car when they are paired. Both phones run Android's most recent Lollipop OS.

When I try to pair the second phone, I simply get a message on the car audio screen saying that the connection failed, and the phone gets a message saying unable to communicate.

The car id when the phone scans for Bluetooth devices is My Car - I'd expected "Land Rover"

Is this likely to be an issue to do with software versions?

You can pair 5 phones but only use one at a time , my wife and I have our phones paired to the car but when we are both in the car we use my phone . This is the only way I have ever used BT on any car that I have had. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Mines a 2007 and I have a S4 mini, it wouldn't connect the same as yours until I deleted a bluetooth connection from the phone I think there were too many in the phone.Mine won't download the phone book either and it also says My car in the pairing.

You will need software update for some new droids on pre facelift cars. Proved this with another forum member who can't pair his new droid to his 07 HSE but pairs perfectly with my 2011 2014 SE Loire Blue SD4 Auto (MY15)

Our 2011 model is a bit weird both with iphones and androids. Basically it works but calls often drop out. Both phones work fine in our 60 reg pre facelift version. Dealer says it's OK when he tries it and as I am retired I don't get the calls I used to it doesn't bother me but it would be difficult to prove there is a problem.
I guess that there is no external aerial and that the phone is still using its internal one which would mean that the position of the phone in the car is important in low signal areas.

PS don't forget that the bluetooth unit is actually in the back of the car near the fuel filler cap so leaving the phone near the radio is the wrong thing to do. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

OK. Maybe I didn't explain properly. I know you can only have one phone actually connected at once, but you should be able to pair up to 5 in the car memory. That's pretty standard on most cars. What seems to be wrong with my Freelander is I can only get it to save a single pairing. When I try to pair a second phone, it fails. I have to remove the paired one from the list and establish a new pairing for the second phone.

So, the problem isn't that the phones won't pair, they will. It seems to be a case of the car only being able to store a single pairing.

It because the radio will have bluetooth v2.0 and can only connect to one device at ones.
For more devices connected at the same time i think it needs bluetooth v3.0 or even 4.0 which was not made at the time. I6 WITH GAS CONVERSION

Four pairings stored on mine - three droid and one blackfruit. To be able to do that I had to remove the single greenfruit that was already stored.

I've just tried mine again and it will allow me to pair mine and the wife's phone.it stores both in the memory but will only pair with 1 phone at a time.

Update...

Had full software update done on car and problem solved.

I can now store pairings for multiple phones and the Phonebooks synch to the car.

Phones connected are Galaxy S4, S5 and a MotoG.

Best 65 quid plus VAT ever spent.

I have Freelander 2 2007 2.2 td4 SE
Can anyone help me with connection loudspeeker system to my android phone?
I changed electric bundle with two optical fibers on the back of the car.
I put the new shifter to the steering wheel.
My radio isn't work if i want to pair phone, when i click handset on radio. There is no info about the possibilities with connection.
At the moment I have a fabric electric bundle back.
