If the Dealer selling it doesn't want to get it fixed, I bet it's something expensive causing the smoke on start up. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

I wonder if it is a "We buy any car " vehicle that has ended up there. They must buy some right lemons at times, evidenced by one of my daughters selling her Evoque to them with non functioning aircon, due to the compressor not having a pulley on it.
She was quoted £1k to repair it before she sold it.

I paid half that for my 2009MY SE, with less mileage, but a nut in a cylinder. Big Cry
Mine has cost me another £1k to get it sorted (piston replaced, low mileage head, new brakes all round and a DIY reconditioned rear diff), but for £3k I have an immaculate 58 plate SE with 120,000 on the clock. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. My daily driver.

Would agree with gasman the fact a dealer or possibly more than one is passing on fixing this makes me think they know the problem and just trying to shift it. What colour smoke is not mentioned, and may be injectors yes and one of another hundred or so possibilities.

As an aside never seen one with interior seats like the one below.

Possible import, two tone seats are a continental options for many makes, so Malta, Cyprus and a couple of others who drive on the left, whether it could be a far east is another option. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

2 tone seats like that were pretty common on early Freelander 2`s with SE spec. Thumbs Up

I quite like the colour scheme. Pity there are no pics of the drivers seat as methinks it probably has the common split squab.

Yes I looked at a couple of SEs in that colour, but preferred the blue/ black, which is what I eventually found.

Or was it more of a case of NOT maintained by a moron?

I suspect the previous owner didn't do anything but wash it. When maintenance was done, they took the vehicle to a moron, who clearly was mechanically inept.
The paint is lovely (although some low life has just keyed 6" of the RH rear door for me Big Cry )
The interior was like new, with the exception of some oily marks on the door card, which I've now cleaned.
However I've had to undo loads of bodges from the previous moronic repairer, but I now think I'm sorted, and it's lovely. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. My daily driver.
