Another Freelander with the code of death

parked the i6 at my parents returned to the car 20 mins later, tried to start the car but no cranking, all the instruments looked ok and the steering unlocked.
Came back later with Nanocom and a multimeter, voltage at the battery was 12.4v, Nanocom showed many reported fault codes and B10A2-00 (2F) Crash input.
I decided the faults codes could be historical and also the 12.4v could well have caused some of them, I cleared the fault codes with B10A2-00 (2F) Crash input being left for SDD.
I put the battery on charge but it was not getting any better as time went on, new battery bought, I used SDD to clear B10A2-00 (2F) Crash input and no more fault issues were indicated in the logs, also checked with Nanocom with same result.
There was no additional earth to the gearbox/starter and that was added, with the new battery I tried to start the car but no cranking was heard, I checked the main power cable from the battery to the starter and it passed continuity testing and also showed 13v at the starter, I have not had a problem with starting prior to this fault, but does this indicate the starter is broken, any advice would be helpful
thanks

If you have 13v, a tad on the high side, at the starter and nothing happens on pressing start you need a new starter motor.

Welcome to the club, I have one month since I crank the car from starter relay, by hand. You can check you starter by a wire conected from battery plus directly to the starter solenoid , is the small conector near the big one. Or yoy cam short with a screwdriver the big one Plus to the small one. But you can do sometihing more easy. Here s the picture

Starting relay striped , Check if you have a plus on the load side with the fob in. If there is 12 v you can ctank the engine without pressing start stop button. If the starter cranks, starter is ok.

Probably starter, especially if you're over 100K miles and have never replaced it.

My lesson learned with starting gremlins on the I6 is to check the battery and then just replace the starter (relatively cheap and easy DIY).

It could have been driven to the shops & back regularly. Where as my car has mostly done very long steady runs across Australia & otherwise barely moves out of the garage. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Hello Lightwater,
I wish we had that option of very log drives with open spaces, 70 million people squashed onto a few square Km isn't a pleasant place to be

Hi Powerrack Have you checked the small trigger wire going to the starter solenoid when the start button is pressed.
If you are getting 12v there, could be that the bendix in the starter is stuck, try tapping in with a mallet. Failing that take it out and strip it down, not difficult to do. Plenty of instructions on YouTube just search 'Denso starter motor'. Thumbs Up

Forgot to mention before removing the starter don't forget to disconnect the battery negative.
Apologies if I am stating the obvious. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Hello Gasman,
checked for the 12v to the starter solenoid, and its there when starter is pressed, also tried the old fashioned tap with wood, but no joy, I removed the starter motor from the car and just checked for the operation on the bench and still no movement after applying 12v. I recently changed the solenoid on my Freelander 1 which was a Denso, so will look inside the unit tomorrow, grateful for all the help - update to follow

I have replaced the starter motor and all is now ok, when I have time I will remove the solenoid from the original starter just to prove which part is faulty, and repair the original, thanks to all for your help
