Can't get sport mode

Just bought a 2008 HSE and I can't select sport mode ... the gear lever can move to the left but it stays in auto mode and the light next to M/S doesn't light .... and S doesn't appear on dash, and moving the shifter up and down doesn't select Command Shift?
Is there a blown fuse that can stop this for working ??
I have selected General Program (Special Programs Off ) with the terrain Response dial.

Hope someone can help.

It should just select it when moved over I don’t know about a fuse but the gear surround comes off easy maybe worth a look in there to see if there are any obvious wires off or anything ?

When it's in the left hand position do you hear if the gear shifting pattern has changed? It should stay in low gears. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

no there is no change, it's just like I didn't move the gear shift .. the car drives as normal.

sounds like an electrical switch that's not working as putting it into sport mode should just change the programming of the gearbox, is there one under the gearstick? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

When your in sport can you change gear manually? Common sense isn't very common.

Thank you Andy, so there is no switch on the gear selector but a magnet and hall effect sensor.
