United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver
Haldex

Hi all ,

Can't find a search bar on this forum so please forgive me for asking this silly (to some of you no doubt) question!

What is the Haldex and what does it do?

Cheers. Kind regards.

Paul

Cheers for the info Bobupndown Thumbs Up

On reading it I believe my 2009 FL2 has the fourth gen Haldex fitted.

Can I ask, what is the service intervals for changing the oil and filter? Kind regards.

Hi,
another good place to have a look as well as using the Search is

forum home - maintenance & modifications section - common maintenance issues links

npinks has compiled it and down the list is a link to Haldex maintenance and lots of other stuff as well Thumbs Up

For the intervals, it depends if you go with LandRover Shocked other manufacturers that use the same sort of set up Confused
or just good preventative maintenance Smile which can be even more regular if you do your own Very Happy

if you have no evidence of anything been done already Question then a 2009 is worth doing it no matter what your mileage.
Oil change, filter and dont forget the gauze in the pump some garages dont do it.

Thumbs Up .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

If only oil and filter changes were the only thing to effect the haldex. I checked the service of our 2009 prior to purchase and found it had had a re-con diff and at least 4 haldex oil changes. Good to go you would think, shame that the haldex ecu had gone and locked the haldex solid. Big Cry

Yes it'll have a Gen4 Haldex.
LR interval is 150k miles, or 10 years, which could be considered filled for life.

VW using the same Gen4, say 40k or 3 years.

It doesn't take a genius to work out which which would be best. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate on order.
Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE.

And if you thrash your remapped Golf R, the forums advice the haldex to be serviced every 2 years /20k miles because some have failed before the recommended service interval. Jules

Cheers everyone for your very helpful info Thumbs Up

I think I will have a look more deeply into this on my car as it's done 87000 miles. Kind regards.

....and seeing you are in Shropshire, it is not a million miles to the Midlands and forum sponsors, Bell Engineering, the considered experts in Freelander transmissions. They will service your Haldex (& maybe your rear diff) same day if you care to book. Austen Greenway is the man to speak to.

Had mine serviced (Oil and Filter) this year at about 66,000 miles. Did have some juddering for a while late last year but touch wood settled before the service and no issues since.
Never gone for the seal for life rubbish, if it uses Oil it should be changed periodically. Andrew

agreed. In Canada the dealer won’t service the Haldex. You have to go elsewhere. And even that is difficult. I equate it to many just aren’t hungry for good work when there’s easy money to be had. Sad really. Guy Pensa
