Whine.....whine....whine

Hi again guys and gals

Well my 08 F2 has developed an alarming whine when accelerating and changing gear...worse between 2k and 3k revs, and is worse with steering input.

After researching on here it would seem to be the power steering so booked car into my local dealer - Droitwich Land Rover.

Having demonstrated it to them their suspicion that it was the power steering pump turned out to be correct after tests...the pump had bits of metal in it so I assume its been eating itself!

Anyway dealer was real good, they have arranged a hire car for me through LR, delivered to my home while they fix it. Car is a HSE F2 Auto - VERY nice indeed, makes me think I should have gone for the auto box on mine.

For your information it got worse the longer the car was driven for and strangely went completely after a re-start only to re-appear after 10 mins or so of driving...wierd.

Just thought I'd let you peeps know. Still love my F2 even though its gone wrong after only 8k miles.

After my bong....bong....bong experience (see that thread) wasn't sure if it was me or not..lol.

Ok, car now fixed.

Service from dealer was outstanding. They even delivered the car back to my home while I was on holiday - so my new (ly fixed) gleaming car was sat on drive ready for me.

Dealer also organised temporary car for me and had that picked up too.

Mine developed a similar whine, which the dealer also traced to the power steering - but in my case it was only the idler pulley about to give up the ghost - not the pump eating itself!

And having taken in a very dirty vehicle it was nice and clean (inside and out) when I got it back - complete with an Easter Egg! 2007 Baltic Blue SE TD4 Auto

Cyprus 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

Hi.
Just imported a second hand XS from UK to Cyprus and have just had the steering pump fail.
I'm expecting the dealer here to try and wriggle out of covering this under the warranty.
Does any one know if there has been any LR service bulletins relating to steering pump/reservoir failures and if so, where I can find it (I looked on the LR GTR site but found nothing).
This will be my defense if the dealer tries to charge me for the replacement.

most of the time this whine is the filter inside the resevoir getting blocked up. there is a black sludge that builds up in the system over time. landrover dont know where the black sludgey debis is from. they all do that!

Sorry, there is no separate filter to change, it has to be the whole PAS fluid reservoir. Sad

Mine did all that and the dealer flushed the fluid. That was around 30k kms ago and it's been ok since. Mine is an 08 with 168k kms on the clock.

If ever you hear the whine, take the car to a dealer ASAP. The more you drive the car, the more at risk is damage to the pump and rack which costs silly money to replace.
Not wise to drive with PAS not functioning as it should from a safety point of view either.
A new reservoir is very cheap Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
