Thanks Guys, last question is this a "big" job and could it be tackled as a DIY exercise ? or do you need special tools and a lift as access is tight ?

Very sensible Mc - you always have someone else to blame if things dont pan out. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Here is a pic of the "timing belt " . The replaceable belt drives the water pump and the exhaust camshaft. The inlet camshaft is driven by a chain from the exhaust camshaft - that chain doesn't need replacing. You need to replace belt (13), water pump(9) and tensioner/idle pulleys (14-8 ) ![]() The auxiliary belt is not shown. Jules |

That's debatable, especially for high mileage cars... There was cases when the tensioner failed and the chain slowly destroyed itself and later the engine when broke... The idea is, if you open the camshafts area and/or you hear chain noise on the top left of the engine, you better change the chain and its tensioner. Not to mention that chains also get old and stretched during time... Use google translate on the below links... https://www.drive2.ru/l/7647188/ https://www.drive2.ru/l/7664833/ https://www.drive2.ru/l/7674024/ https://www.drive2.ru/l/7794185/ |

I was thinking probably not required on a 83K mile car - but agreed as the miles roll on many things will need replacing eventually - piston rings, main bearings, camshafts etc etc Jules |

Thanks all for your input, i've decided on a local garage solution, which when complete allows me to start thinking about driving the next 80K or so....before thinking about it again.
