How did you get on with your fit? I have these tyres ready to go on, just think I might need some spacers on the rear to help clear the shock. |

Just fitted Hancook Dynapro's 255 x 55 x R19. Did a full clearance check and no problems. On our other Freelander SD4 we have 255 x 60 x R18 for more than a year. Gravel, sand and lots of towing an off-road caravan are no problem.

Our first 08 reg FL2 was an "S" spec with 16" wheels. I can't remember actual the tyre size but when I came to replace them (originals) I ran into a few problems phoning tyre suppliers who said things like "are you sure that's the sort that's on there sir?" One tyre dealer refused to replace them as he said that they were Transit Van tyres and should no have been put on a 4x4. And these were original fitment! (I guess during Ford ownership). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto no real problems FL2 S 08 reg 100k no problems FL2 S 10 reg Gearbox, clutch, throttle body, drive shaft, steering reservoir FL2 GS 60 reg xfer box, diff and wheel bearings FL2 GS 11 reg gearbox ,hesitation, exhaust sensors, wiper stalk, FL2 XS 14 reg SD4 Auto , door lock problem @ 29k |

Of course the tyre dealer knew better than the development engineers from a multi billion pound/dollar motor company |

The police are more concerned your tyres are road “worthy” without cracks, tears, bald patches or under/over inflated than being 10/20mm wider.

I used to work in the tyre trade and as a general rule if you go wider you have to go lower profile or risk altering the gearing

So started the thread looking at 255/55/19 and ended up with 265/60/18 ![]() Changed rims to suit? Just weighing up costs atm in changing rims to 18" or staying with existing 19's and fitting 255/5519's ![]() |
