Spare tyre odd size

I've just been checking tyre pressures (long-ish trip coming up at the weekend) and noticed my steel spare wheel is a different size to my road wheels.

The road tyres are 235/60R18 and the spare is 225/65R17. A tyre size calculator I found (http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html) reckons the spare is over half an inch smaller.

So presumably if I had to use this spare, the corner it would be on wouldn't touch the ground!

Looks like I'll be phoning the dealer this afternoon...

spare wheel size.

i have 16 ich std s alloys as shes only a s spec but found the spare to be 17 inch and diff size tyre.dealer said this is a extra as s modela come with tyre weld and no spare.this is what landrover send and cost is £155.the tyre is lower profile, like the gs std tyre so circumfrance is same..the 2008 s march vehicles had full spare/privace glass and chrome mirror caps as a dealer promo fitted free ,thats what i got.only black vehicles i think had this.what model do u have dick? and year.if they are not std on the spec eg gs,xs,hse, and the jeep wasnt bought buy urself from new they may ask you to pay bigger spare.

So I called the dealer this afternoon. Apparently it's normal to have a slightly smaller diameter spare wheel, though the person I spoke to promised to double check and get back to me in 10 minutes. (Of course, 4 hours later, I'm still waiting...)

I assume I've just had the LR equivalent of PRATFO.

GS have 235 65 17 and the spare is also a 235 65 17 on a steel rim. the dealer has provided you with a non standard tyre I would also check it's speed rating, although you are limited to 50 mph with the steel spare.

Are you sure the steel spare has the same size tyre as the other wheels?

I would consider selling my 17" wheels/tyres individually if there was interest, that way I could keep one for myself At work

The temp spare used to be 235, its now 225. All perfectly safe if you do what the handbook says (keep below 80 km/h or 50MPH) Thumbs Up

being as how I drive on the continent quite a bit, and tow my caravan over there as well, I don't fancy being caught out with a steel spare so I have a spare set of GS alloys and take 2 as spares when in Europe.
I do have 2 spare ones with 4mm tread left tyres if anyone is interested.

Hmm... must check this. That could mean that I might get away wih a disco (255/55/19) tyre on my full size spare. Mind you, that sort of negates the point in a full size spare if I'm still going to b restricted to 50mph. Rolling Eyes 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..
