No instruments or dash lights

Hi fellas, Been lurking here for a while and the time has come when I could do with a bit of your help.

Just driving down the M20 this afternoon and without any warning the dash lights went out and all of the dash info went blank (no odo, trip, outside temp, no green light to confirm headlights are on etc) radio dead. Speedo stuck at 80, rev counter stuck at 2000. Indicators still work, but no audible tick. Lights do work, but I think they are not as bright as usual. Fuel gauge went from 3/4 to 3/8, coolant gauge went from norm to between cold and norm.

When I got home I switched off and restarted after an hour and no change. I'm still doing 80 in the garage!

Appreciate any help you folks can offer. Not too bothered as still under warranty, but would be most useful to know cause, especially if it happens again when a LR dealer might not be close by.

Many thanks and cheers

Check fuses no 4 and no 8 at the passenger's feet fuse box.
Look in handbook, pages 207-208 for additional info.

Thanks for your prompt reply Alex.

Have just checked both fuses and both are intact. Problem still exists.

All the best RM

After the car failed to start this morning, I called LR rescue out and after good hour and a half he discovered that a multi-plug under the dashboard had become loose.

All up and running again. Very impressed with the guy's determination to find a permanent fix, as at one point it looked as though a temporary link from one part of the rear fusebox to the other part in the rear would have to do until the car could be taken to the local dealer to find a permanent fix. Thank you all!

Smile Many thanks for this post. Driving home the other night I too suddenly lost all dash lights, radio, bluetooth etc. Fuel gauge went up from a known 1/8 to a deceptive 3/4 and speedo stuck at 50mph even when standing still. No warnings for indicators etc although all still worked fine. Used GPS as speedo and back to old fashioned reversing as alarms also failed. Car was one week out of warranty so you can guess the feeling in the pit of my stomach!

Phoned dealer who had never heard of the problem and promised nothing other than an investigation.

Read your post and set out with torch in hand. Sadly couldn't find grey plug referred to in link to other post, but following your principle that a passenger over stretching does indeed press on a few wring looms I traced up to find a small black multi plug adrift roughly behind the glove box which locates into a fixed white receiver. Everything working fine now and 11 year old will in future travel behind dog guard until she learns to sit still! Laughing

Following the other suggestions on this topic did not produce results for me. Ultimately, I disconnected battery negative terminal for ~ one minute - upon re-connection, instrument panel was working again.

I had a similar situation but it only occurred if the outside temperature hit 28ºC.
Beep, and dashboard went dead but car still drove.
The solution was to fit a second earth lead to the battery - I think there are already several threads related to this. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Thanks for this post. Got me out of trouble today. No sign of blown fuses but when I put 8 back in I heard a click. So swapped 4 to 8, 8 to spare, spare to 4. Tried the reset (which I had done numerous times) and bingo. Instruments back. Very relieved. Love the expertise on this forum.
