Hi, I'm not sure about the Hyundai Sante Fe. it does look a good car, but in my mind, goes not have the sane standing as Volvo or Land Rover. I may be wrong but just my thoughts.
I think what would tip it for me is if you can extend the warranty. I know you can on LR, but don't think you can on Volvo. that said. I do like the XC60, but not so keen on the Disco sports although the face lift model does appear better?

Can't speak about the Volvo or the Hyundai but have had a couple of DS.
Not counting the very latest 2020 models you have Four main options
1) the originals with the 2.2 engine strait out of the Freelander 2
2) the newer ignium 180 diesel
3) the ignium 240
4) petrol

The older versions with the 2.2 are tried and tested, and should actually have a premium.
The 180 diesel puts fuel in the oil - change the oil as often as the FL2 and you "should" be OK
The 240 diesel doesn't put fuel in the oil, but in common with the 180 has an issue with some vehicles chewing up balance shaft bearings, there is a modified set that cures the issue, and "should" be done under warranty.
The petrol eats fuel, but for shorter journeys is a much better bet - the 240 diesel isn't exactly fuel efficient around town.

The higher the specification, the more electrics, the more there is to go wrong, software updates are coming thick and fast mine certainly is becoming more stable.
Personally I love mine and think it a worthy replacement for the FL2

There doesn’t seem to be any great concern about this issue on the Volvo forum I would visit from time to time and they use the same drivetrain.
