Oil Brand

Hi all, just wondered what your thoughts are on Oil brands?

There is an offer on a particular auction site for Mannol meeting all specs(WSS-M2C913-D)any good?
I previously used Shell helix, but thought i would shop around.

Cheers

Hi, regarding engine oil and have used Shell helix before my thoughts are that shell doesn’t do for me what engine oils are designed to do.
Before any holiday season I always change engine oil and filter, air filter, fuel, pollen usually May or June just annually. Always a fuel filter only 35 quid from a landrover dealer but it’s just piece of mind it’s done.( I cut the top off the old fuel filter to have a nosy- You’d be surprised) Just in 12 months.
I experienced sort of a tappet noise when extremely hot ie in Switzerland towing my caravan, it could have been pinking but when mentioned to a fellow caravanner there, same car about this he advised Castrol GTX A5, 10w 40 Same grade which is what shell is.
So while abroad I found a landrover dealer purchased an oil filter and found a car accessory shop and bought the Castrol about the same here really costs around 24quid for 4litres, sometimes Asda sell it quite cheap and buy 2 cans- 8ltrs change out of 40quid. Tend to stock up on it now when it’s cheap.
So while in Switzerland I changed oil and filter and never ever had that tappet noise and to be fair at 6000 mile per year when it’s draining it doesn’t look too black where the shell didn’t, might be reading something into this about dirty black engine oil but end of the day it’s Castrol. and you don’t want dirty engine oil pumped around sensitive components. My thoughts...!
Over to someone else.

Slight spelling adjustment “did not didn’t” about shell being dirty. Sorry.

The FL2 engine has hydraulic tappets so it's essential to use the correct viscosity oil, which is 5w30. If you get noisy tappets with this spec. oil it may indicate damage or wear to the tappets/rockers or to the oil pump (= low oil pressure).

Has the oil level in the engine been allowed to get excessively low at any point? This could cause this type of damage.

Totally agree with Bob
Its Millers for me used it for 20 years

My MPG also increases after a change

On an internet site for about 30 golden ones for 5 litres but you do need 6 litres

In the last few years I have been using Smith & Allan lubricants up in Darlington - they deliver.

I now buy the 20l bulk where I can and it looks like the Momentum C1 F 5w-30 fully synth ACEA C1 (2016) Ford WSS-M2C934-B, Jaguar Land Rover ST JLR.03.5005 would meet the Freelander TD4 spec?

Running a series LR you go through quite a lot of various fluids so where I can get the 20l tubs it is a real bonus Rolling with laughter

Many well respected & knowledgeable (way more than me!) members of the Series one club have used S&A for years in their vehicles - that says enough for me Thumbs Up 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Davyboy's FL2 is 2009, so does not have a DPF and therefore does not need the C1 spec oil.

The earlier spec WSS-M2C913-D oil is the one required.

Italy 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Fuji White

Hello, I changed engine oil last week.
MOTUL 8100, ECO-CLEAN+, 5W30

Specification:
Ford WSS-M2C934-B, STJLR.03.5005
This brend is recommended by Mazda but is valid for our freelander2.

My freelander has DPF ( 2014Year)

For DPF model's we have to check STJLR.03.5005 , correct?
