Are both key fobs refusing to work.
Normally batteries in keys fobs and/or car.
How old is your car battery, it needs to be able to hold a decent output voltage during the time that your FL2s various control units initialise. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

If the car starts once you gain access and only the open/close process is with problems, then its the rechargeable battery inside the remote.
The battery is charged when the key is docked, but after some time (and 12 years are some time Very Happy ), it sure needs replacing like any other rechargeable battery.
Take a look in these places:

Two things wear on the Key fob

1 - the battery as Alex pointed out

2 - the plastic that pushed the micro-switch on the PCB

To fix item #1 you need to destroy the old shell so you automatically fix item number 2

Worn + that unlocks the car

New + on a new shell

They are referring to the rechargeable lithium battery that is inside the docking key fob. It charges once docked but it does not have an infinite life cycle.

Tigertim posted this a while ago - might be useful.

I’ve just had this same problem both fobs not locking or unlocking car but start it ok so I ordered a new battery and fob case and after swapping battery still no change however if I hold fob high and close to centre of roof ie where receiver is they both work ok . Next I removed and charged main battery overnight and after refitting fobs work from 20 metres away and from what I had read when your battery is starting to deteriorate first thing to start playing up is the receiver so might be time for a new battery or to get it checked for condition. If mine play up again I’m replacing my ageing battery .
