Hi, I'm new to the site and hope I'm posting this topic in the right place, I have a 2007 Freelander 2, it's needing the engine replaced with a donner, I know I need to use the original injectors but do I need to use anything else regarding the original engine, maybe things like fuel pump or sertain sensors that might be coded/programmed to the ECU that the donner engine obviously wont be coded to. I've already pulled the engine and I'm in the process swapping things over to the engine that's to be put back in, thanks in advance for any advice.

Do we assume that the donor engine is from exactly the same vehicle (age etc ?) 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Engine is from a 2008 fl2 model, I'm assuming it's the same as it looks just like the original engine in every way, what Im really asking is, is it just injector's that's coded to a particular engine/ECU or are there other parts that have to be coded along with injectors?, I've came across this in other vehicles, especially deisel models.

There are a few components that you need swop over, like the injectors and throttle body and turbo. Nothing else is calibrated or coded.

Out of interest, what's wrong with the engine? 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Big ends went on the original engine, I had the crankshaft seal ( gearbox end ) leak, driving along then heard a loud metallic rumbling, checked my oil which was on the low side, took sump off and found lots of metal inside it, think I ran it with not enough oil so engine was a right off, should have been on top of the oil but you live and learn.

I've changed the turbo over and doing injectors tomorrow, so what your saying is IL deffo need to swap the throttle body too.

I've heard of the swirl flap removal thing, I take it people do it because there's a risk of them breaking and causing major damage, IL have to look into it a bit more and find out how to go about it thanks.

Will I see a difference in performance with doing this mod??

No, it's very unlikely - it's all about removing the risk of broken flaps damaging the engine which will certainly affect performance!
