I did it.....

Today I’ve changed my Alpine Premium for a modern Alpine 2-din radio with rear view camera, Dab+, Apple car play and a good handsfree function.
The main reason to do so was the lack of the handsfree function in my original setup. Probably because of a broken Bluetooth module.
The nav screen is replaced for an original tray to have some extra storage space.
I’m very happy with the result!

Old setup (this was not mine but it looked exactly the same:

New setup (this is mine):

It’s a neat installation but do you find the screen easy to view if using a navigation function? I find I’m really taking my eyes off the road to look at, say, the radio tuner or phone options and would much prefer to have a screen instead of the storage cubby for navigation. One of these days I think I’ll have to spring for an Xtrons!

Here I am looking at the actual make up of the LCD, during manufacture, not the position.

I do think the left/right viewing angle of the screen is set to 'normal' straight ahead view, where as your original screen would have been set for a 'left bias' (being LHD). Up/down view would also be a problem as to the position the LCD screen now holds in the centre console, being much lower.

Looks good, but how practical is it ?

Hi, the screen is very good visible from the driver side, looking a little bit down.
No difference at all when I move my head up- and downwards.

Excellent. Do you still have use of the sub, parking sensors and steering wheel controls? The sub needing an amp bypass cable is what pushed me to decide to not do it.

Glad you're enjoying it. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

Stef This is of great interest to me. You have done a great job. I have just visited a car accessories/ stereo/ camera place. Mine is a 6 cylinder 2012 Freelander 2 and the guy told me that my Alpine stereo is not original but the people who bought it new assure me it is. I have found that my screen is very hard to read at certain times of the day through glare. He was suggesting some Apple play deal where my iPhone connects to a USB in the glove compartment and I can access Google maps that way. No more out of date maps!

I believe there is a Perth Western Australia (my city) member who has done some work about retrofitting stuff like you did. If he's reading this or if anyone knows who it is I would be grateful if you could let him or me know. I was quoted up to $Au 2000 to upgrade and I do not want to spend that much.
