Door close issue - FL2 says door is not closed, but it is.

Hi all,

2 weeks in on my MY12 FL2 and I have my first irritating fault. When I closed the drivers door this morning and put the key fob in, the vehicle started beeping - which it does when you drive away with a door slightly open. When I started the vehicle, the readout told me that the drivers door was not shut. The internal light would not dim either. Checked the door. Definitely shut properly. Drove my journey, message stayed on and interior light stayed on. Figured if it was a major issue that when I went to lock the vehicle with the remote, then it would not lock. But it did fine.

When I got back home I checked it with a different fob and still have the same fault.

Presume it must be some sort of sensor issue somewhere but not sure where to start trying to find it or how to rectify it.

Any clues?

thanks

There’s a button in the pillar that the door pushes in isn’t there ?

I had a similar problem recently.

Approached car opened with key fob all doors, with handle opened rear drivers door, closed again.
Opened drivers door started engine, message came up rear drivers door NOT closed.
Stopped and open / closed door - definitely closed !
Message read the same.
Got out tried to lock car with fob, it bleeped at me .....without locking doors !!

SOLUTION. opened rear drivers door , locked it by pressing button in interior handle, shut door.
Pressed fob all doors locked.
Pressed fob all doors opened.

Fixed. not played up since.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

From repair manual

Each door latch is a sealed unit that comprises the following:
Lock motor
Double lock motor (all except North American Specification (NAS), Japan and Gulf vehicles)
Door ajar switch.

Door Ajar Switch

An ajar switch is installed in each door latch and is hardwired to the CJB. If the ignition is in power modes 4 (Accessory) or 6
(Ignition) and a door is opened or is not fully closed, the corresponding door ajar switch is opened to disconnect the ground
from the CJB. A message is transmitted by the CJB via the medium speed CAN bus to the instrument cluster, to inform the
driver that a door is ajar.

On vehicles with a low-line instrument cluster the door ajar symbol is illuminated.

On vehicles with a high-line instrument cluster, the door ajar symbol is illuminated and a message is also displayed in the
message center.
.
The door ajar switch is also integrated with the vehicle security system and is used as the detection device for unauthorized
vehicle entry

Thanks for the words of wisdom.
New development is that now the vehicle is not locking as it does the beep thing whenever the button on the key fob is pushed. The only way to securely lock the entire vehicle is to have the passenger lock the driver door manually from the inside then get out.
Going back to the dealer on Monday so that it can be fixed.

Ended up getting the actuator and latch mechanism replaced. Dealer covered the cost.
Interestingly, I have seen a number of posts on here about the central locking activating when you pull away but, on exiting the vehicle fro the driver door, the rest of the vehicle remains locked. I too had this issue before the replacement actuator was fitted but this seems to have cured it. Happy days!
