Idle vibration

Hello all, loving my Freelander 2 2.2 D4 HSE Auto, but getting a vibration which sounds to be from the rear of the engine audible at idle when stationary, and when lifting off the throttle at low speed. Specialist thought it was a heat shield which they secured but it made no difference, and it's becoming more frequent. Any ideas? Thank you ☺️

Mine was making a very similar noise also when at idle until revs were introduced. My local indy diagnosed it as a auxiliary tensioner pulley, so had that replaced along with water pump and timing belt as they were due a change. Noise seems to be gone now. Freelander 2 XS 2013

Hi Dom

Thanks for the reply. The belts were also changed 3yrs/20k ago but no mention of tensioner, pulley or water pump on the invoice. Does this seem odd as it was the 10 year service at a main dealer?

Another thing to check is the Alternator Pulley as it has a one way clutch that sometimes seizes and causes the drive belt to vibrate.

Might be worth asking the dealer what they would've done to get some clarification. Freelander 2 XS 2013
