Does anyone know where I can get a replacement smart proximity key fob for my 2013 Landrover Freelander 2 or indeed if anyone carries out repairs to these fobs.
I have two fobs and on one the unlock button sometimes does not work or when it does it only unlocks the drivers door and all the electric windows wind down.
The other functions all work and the fob will start the car when in it, as normal.
I am told that Landrover dealers charge a fortune.

Have looked at the link but my fob is different. It is for the so called “facelifted” model. It is a proximity key fob and it is easy to change the battery on these as it is a cr2032 one, no soldering required.

if the case is damaged im pretty sure that RRUK can replace it by swapping the printed board into a new casing,

if the printed board button contact is at fault then it will most likely have to be a LR job to order a new one etc.

try sending RRUK a message to ask his thoughts as he is the expert.

I have used these people when I left the key in my jeans pocket and my OH accidentally washed and tumble dried my Freelander 2 (2014) 5 button smart key, they supplied and coded the key to the car, £140 all in which I thought was a good deal compared to LR price. The key is exactly the same just no LR logo. He does do a supply only price but you would need to take it to be coded.

If it is only the case (LR078922) that needs replacing, they can be had bought for as little as a tenner delivered from ebay or just a couple or three quid extra from LR parts suppliers. Perhaps even less from the site sponsors.


You don't get the chrome edge with this part - strictly the case only but it only takes a few minutes to change the innards from old to new. If your electronics have gone though, you'll just end up with a shiny new looking key that doesn't work.

I bought one of the LR078922 as the rubber was coming adrift. The first one LR replaced it as it was only 2 years old. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Both my keys the rubber cover is starting to come adrift, think I'll try a spot of superglue first then buy the genuine cases if not a success, they are pretty cheap for a genuine part. I assume innards easyto swap across? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I have fitted new cases to both of my keys due to the rubber parts deteriorating. It is very easy to transfer the innards to a new case with no glueing or other special skills required on the post 2013 models. I purchased genuine LR parts off ebay

If your key/fob problems are more serious..(I got caught out in a downpour earlier this year and the fob got quite wet. I dried it out but it would not unlock the car after that)

It took a little chasing as the shop was shut due to Covid - 19 shutdown, but it came back a couple of weeks later, repaired and with a new battery and new case, all for £27.50
