does anyone know if the fl2 has a filter or stop mechanism to stop the smaller petrol nozzle
to fill the flr diesel tank up?.
i was reading the latest issue of auto express and it says some landrovers and jaguars
will not allow the petrol nozzle to fit in the fl2 tank filler.

if it has'nt has anyone fitted there's with a stop device i.e fuel angel etc 57 plate, hse stornoway grey with full bodykit, privacy glass, bi-xenon adaptive lights, clear indicators and colour coded door handles (sold now)

nothing fitted to an fl2, its not silly to buy a safety device but I shall risk it, I believe you can claim the first incident on your insurance after that its probably wise to get a safety device At work

"Other Fords " like latest Mondeo do have a system to prevent misfuelling.

Yes the unleaded is the smaller nozzle which means there is no protection against petrol into diesel misfuelling. This is a consequence of the introduction of unleaded, thats when the smaller nozzle was introduced to rpevent leaded / unleaded misfuellling. The standard diesel nozzle today is the same as the 'leaded' nozzle of years ago.

One way to avoid the problem is simply to make a point of reading(and saying) the name of the fuel as it is written on the nozzle and the same for grade label inside the filler cap, as long as you get diesel - diesel you're OK, sounds simple but get into the routine and it works.  Stornoway Grey GS ... I shall definitely be buying a safety device after inadvertently filling with 40 litres of petrol whilst my mind was on other things (had just been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer) and then driving it for 90 plus miles.
It was a good job it would not start again after stopping for a pee (nothing to do with above, just call of nature.)
Had to be recovered to stealer and estimate for repairs is £2,500.00 as apparently petrol destroys all the seals in the pumps (Did you know there are 3?) and injectors(injectors £250.00 each) and still waiting for parts delivery date.

When I bought my FL2 I asked the dealer what he thought of fitting the sort of thing which screws down into the neck of the filler pipe (is that what the Dragons Den device does?). He replied that they had had a number of cars in to have extraneous gadgets fished out of the fuel tank!

Our defender had terrible engine troubles for around 6 months, it turned out that whilst topping the tank up from a plastic container my Dad had dropped the cardboard gasket from the containers lid into the tank. This was sucking onto the diesel outlet on the tank starving the engine. We had to undo the diesel filters bleed screw each time, this released the suction and the disc fell of the outlet and the engine ran again. Only to stick back over the outlet at random intervals

Only after checking all the pipes, filters, lift pump etc several times did we open up the fuel tank to find the offending disc floating about. At work

Have purchased a Fuel Angel to prevent another accident, but had to do it by phone as upon trying on-line got to the enter your card number box, entered my first 4v digits and up came somebody's complete card number.
Very worrying! good job i am honest, and had a very worried MD on the phone first thing this morning with "umble Apologies"

Good news is rang Land Rover insurance this morning and amazingly the policy covers it, so only £350.00 policy excess to pay out instead of £2377.00

Much relief all round.

The amazing thing is that the claim handler informed me she had processed claims for people who have done it more than once.

I know I was a Pratt but not twice.

just got the car back to day after two weeks and one day in the dealers. Injectors were on back order and then oh dear we need O rings and got order those. Oh dear wrong ones.
Totally hacked off with the lack of communication to keep me informed of progress but now its back and running very nicely just as it did before.
Only problem the parking sensors have got a fault but it may not be related as it was hissing down with rain on the A55 from Llandudno to Birkenhead and have seen a post somewhere of sensors being affected by water.
Will inform dealer as it is under warranty anyway and see if it clears when the weather improves and it can wait until I am in the area or go to a service agent in Liverpool.
