Reduced Engine Power Mode with Codes P2290 and P0087

Hi all,

I'm new on here and our daughter has bought a 2010 FL2 TD4 with 136,000 on the clock.

It keeps going in to REP mode and has thrown two errors:

P2290 Injector control pressure too low
P0087 Fuel rail/system pressure too low.

I've just changed to fuel filter. Took a little while to bleed but got it running again.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Hi and welcome

Before going in depth on the two DTC can you advise.

1) REP otherwise known as limp mode, has this brought on the EML If so has this been since your daughter bought the vehicle?
2) How long has she owned it?
4) How many miles has she done in the vehicle?
5) We're the DTC present prior to changing the fuel filter or after?
6) Have you cleared the DTC to see if either or both return?
7) What brand of fuel filter did you use?

If the fuel tank is really low this will cause the same problem.

Was your replacement filter Genuine?
as some of the lower priced ones can fail,
IIRC, something about a thermal sensor failing.

1) REP wasn't an issue at the point of purchase. Happened a few days later.
2) She's owned it nearly three weeks
4) 136,000
5) Codes were present after REP happened. Took it to a local LR indie and he suggested starting with the fuel filter
6) Yes, cleared the codes and they appeared again after REP happened (after the filter change).
7) Don't know what brand of fuel. Does that really affect things to that extent. I own a D3 and put all brands of fuel in it.

The filter is a new Bosch filter.

Can you read some live values?
250-300 bars during idle and over 600-800 bars when increasing RPM to 2500-3000, is normal when stationary.

2.
On injectors' return line, there is a pressure valve (that silver cylinder before filter's return line) that keeps the injectors' return line pressure at about 10 bars.
If you can check that valve, do it.

On my Foxwell OBD tool, I can't read those values.

Do I need another tool to do that?

Was the fault only after you changed the fuel filter?

It could be a high pressure fuel pump fault or an air lock.

To confirm you would need to measure fuel flow from the low pressure pump from the fuel tank.
Then measure the fuel flow from the high pressure pump.
If the fuel pressure from the high pressure pump is no better than the low pressure pump then the high pressure fuel pump is likely to be faulty.

High pressure fuel pump is about £600, so maybe best to get a good garage to diagnose the fault.

Yes, the fault presented itself before the filter change.

Strangely, it hasn't gone in to REP mode since the filter change - EXCEPT for twice directly (that afternoon) after having had to bleed the system after the filter change and my idiot non-start episode and poor bleeding.

So maybe it was an airlock or bubbles in the line?

Could that trigger a code and REP?

Hi yes blocked fuel filters can cause REP as it's restricting the fuel pressure, as indicated by your DTC it is recommended that you use genuine LR fuel filter which is manufactured by Purflux as some of the other brands appear to fail earlier. I change mine every year to be on the safe side, mine developed the same symptoms as yours just after I purchased it and replacing the fuel filter regularly appears to have rectified the issue.
