But I know I once found a mouse hiding under my bonnet of l200 had munched on the insulation padding

So as the freelander looks a lot more complicated how do you deter country life from setting up home

My worry is buy a nice freelander and some rodent eats away at it Making it a costly expense

Keep a cat under the bonnet

That's no good, well known fact that cats can get out of gaps around Land Rover bonnets and doors. Common sense isn't very common.

I’ve had fuel lines chewed in an Alfa and nesting mice under the bonnet of an Isuzu, but in the 8 years I’ve now had it nothing has touched the FL2. Which is, of course, tempting fate big time!

An airtight garage is about the only thing guaranteed to keep them out (and even then they’ll sneak in while the doors are open).

If you have a bird feeder try to place it away from the house and the car, as feeders are a magnet for rodents. Similarly keep animal feeds and the like well out of reach and check regularly for signs of rodent activity (droppings, things getting chewed, etc.). If you do find anything traps and bait are probably the most effective way of dealing with it. Monitor the house too, including listening for scratching sounds in the walls and ceilings, as I can pretty much guarantee the odd one will find its way in somehow or other. It’s just one of the pleasures which comes with living in the country!

Ive heard of people putting Polo Mints in those netting draw string wash sack (talk to the wife, she'll know) .

Other mints are available.

My daughter in Canada had car wiring eaten recently, it seems that it is quite common there.

Last year I had a mouse that hitched a ride on bonnet for 2 miles Just looking at me, every time I Stopped and got got out it ran into the roof, was Not frightened of my screams , told husband he just laughed but I hate them

Only got off when reached near top of track even picked up a stick still wasn’t bothered

Cats don’t like them but wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a few big cats round here apparently they been spotted

Had my i6 in the garage for some work and they found a dead mouse on top of the gearbox, thought they were going to charge me for it's funeral  Common sense isn't very common.

I have a small plastic bait box with a couple of bait blocks put inside it is stuffed up near the Engine fuse box

I don't see many mice where I live.

Mostly foxes and badgers here nearly every night walking past my car as seen on CCTV,
but never seen a fox or badger get under the bonnet yet.

You can keep your wiring munching rodents, all the neighbours have cats, so mice not a problem, they do like the odd bird, and the little blighters do like to crap in the boarders, but they do leave the cars alone. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Personally I’d rather have mice (and sheep) for neighbours than humans!
