Always like to join the forums for the wealth of knowledge and experience available. Hopefully I'll be able to share some too.
Bought mine from a friend who's father is no longer able to drive, so far absolutely love it and the few small jobs (chrome indicator bulbs F&R, roof bars, bonnet struts) that I've done have been remarkably easy! I'm sure sooner or later it will bite back though.
It will be a keeper so will get all that's required. Booked in for a new Haldex which took a good chunk off the purchase price and had a new diff last year so hopefully that's the major worries sorted.

Currently debating whether to have side steps, they seem to be beneficial when getting in but obstructive when exiting? What are peoples thoughts.

That's what I need to know

If they help then yes, if aesthetic but in the way then no.

Had them on my D2, but personally I found them a hindrance
when getting out of the motor, so they went.
Stepping in we use our toes but to get out you need to use
the heel, just didn't seem right somehow, plus a good chance
of getting clothing marked (not good with the wife)
For me keep the money for later.

like a lot of people I tend to slide out of the Freebe (leather seats) so you may catch the back of legs/trousers on the muddy step. Common sense isn't very common.

Side steps were useful for kids when they were younger n much shorter to help them get in and out. I thought they'd be useful for accessing the roof box but I find more often than not I stand on the tyres to load and unload. All they seem to be good for now is making the back/calves of your pants dirty when getting out!

The Genuine LR Freelander 1 side steps were a better design. They were tapered from front to back. Allowing front seat entry/exit without getting caught, although still allowing smaller rear seat passengers to step up and in.

These steps will not fit the FL2, so a backward step (ha ha) from LR.

I find the FL2's cutaway sills great for keeping clean when getting in and out. I dirty my trousers more on the Fiesta sills. I dont believe side steps will improve anything. Jules
