Damn it. Wife lost the only fully functioning key fob. Spare one starts and unlocks, but won't lock for some reason. Called local dealer, $400 for a fob, $150 for programming. Gotta be out of their minds.

About the same price here in DC

Working key question

Hi, I too have two fobs that won't unlock car. I've replaced the battery in one and the circuit board voltage is good. In the other key the battery is dead. Both keys start the FL2 though. Before I change the second battery I am checking out the re-programming threads on here as I suspect that service will be needed. Some services on offer on interweb say you need two working keys. Just wanted to check with you guys and gals that "working" means they will start the car? Otherwise they wouldn't need re-programming I guess Very Happy Very Happy

Your thoughts appreciated!

hello,
is there a program that can program keys for 2008? I tried key programmers, diagnostics, etc. , sellers said they can, but I had the things return. Neutral

Program Key fob

Sorry put it on twice. Shocked
Hi

I have just successfully programmed a new key fob to my Freelander 2.

I have an Autel MaxiAP AP200 unit. In the picture below. It plugs into the OBD11 port and is a full diagnostics tool for the car. Which has been really helpful.

In the service options is Immo Keys. And is a really simple instructions to follow by a series of putting in the original key and the new blank one.

Dealership wanted £120 for a new fob and £200 to program it! So did some research and the AP200 was £58 and a blank key fob with battery and circuit board was £15. Both off Ebay. The tool has been useful for other issues as well but see the pictures below. Hope this helps

Very interested in your criteria and reasons for purchasing the Autel tool?
The reason I ask is I have been mulling over weather to buy the all singing & dancing IID bt tool, which in fairness is probably a lot more in depth than I'm comfortably going into with vehicle electronics - when the language descends into techno babble then its beyond me Big Cry

I was contemplating a somewhat simpler device & the Autel device you bought looks like it might fit the bill.

In an effort not to have search the internet looking for a suitable device, which let's face all the manufacturers will state their devices are the the best & Autel is brand I know as I've got a cheap scan tool of theirs, could you please tell me how you settled on this product & why you thought is the best for you?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Hi Cherokee (Brian)

It's simple really, loads of research. I don't need a complex unit and have had a few battery issues and the dealer said when you change the battery you need to reset the BMS module to adapt to the new battery. Plus I wanted to look at my wife's Audi, temp sensor issue. Downloaded the Audi software for £17. So all round good value. And of course it programs keys as well, excellent. Only downside is that's a little slow.

Hope this helps. Mike

Hi Mike

Thanks for that Information, very useful.

You pretty much are on the same lines I was thinking & thanks for the YouTube video which I watched & found very Informative as the guy says & you confirm it's a bit clunky & a bit slow, but i don't mind that as i don't rush about with anything these days Rolling Eyes plus what do you expect at £58

To my mind this tool represents good value for money versus functionality, so much so I'm not going faff about I'm going to buy one.

Thanks for helping me make up my mind, finally may I please enquire where you purchased from?

Thanks again

Cheers

Thanks Mike - very informative, I was under the impression that new keys were a LR main dealer job only (shows how much I know Rolling Eyes ).

I did however know any new key must be virgin.

Seems like a good tool.

Cheers

Brian,
Thanks for the video - very interesting. It would be interesting to have your thoughts on the Android system (in another thread perhaps?). Is it the Xtrons unit?
