JLR pleads for rescue deal - Sunday Times

'Car giant in talks with Whitehall as it burns £1bn a month'

This story leads the Business Section of today's Sunday Times.

It seems they are not alone amongst the 'car making, steel and aircraft manufacturing' companies which are thought to be vital to the UK's future.

It is suggested that any loans will be guaranteed against the Government taking stakes in these large, important, companies.

It won't be the first (and probably last) time these sectors have been part nationalised, and relaunched/sold on again to private hands, with varying degrees of success.

I do believe though, we need some good, reliable, leadership to save our industry this time, and not just save the banks.

I would be sorry to see JLR fail. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Margaret Thatcher had a hand in keeping the car industry going in the 1980's.

The writing was on the wall a long time before this virus came along regarding Land Rover grossly overpriced, poor reliability together with Censored poor customer care towards its loyal customers.

I’d be gutted, I have deep love for the brand. I’ve been a loyal customer through good times and bad, hopefully I can get into a new Defender pretty soon. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

They may be a lot of money, but they are pretty much in line with, or cheaper than, their direct competitors.

The Financial Times is reporting that the 'rescue' talks have broken down, and so JLR will have to find private funds to support business.

Its seems amongst other reasons were JLRs reluctance to drop diesel and speed up electrification.

Interestingly I read elsewhere that Tesla is making millions in selling it's 'carbon credits' to other car makers who can't make the new regulations in some countries.
