United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey
Trailer ideas

I have a small car trailer, approx 5x3' on mini wheels which is handy for trips to the tip etc.
I'd like a bigger one but want it to be general purpose capable of carrying my classic Mini or a ride on lawnmower. Id also like it to be able to carry 2 x euro pallets (of wood for a log burner) and possibly have detachable sides with mesh uppers for grass / garden waste.
I know I could probably go and buy something but would imagine I'd be talking £2500+.
I'd quite like to build something suitable myself, aware of IVA rules but realistically no one can prove what age a trailer is or when it was built so not too worried about that.
Anyone built anything of similar style or have any tips? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

There's a seller on Ebay Bob who sells car trailers for a decent price , I think that they are made in Poland and look decent quality and from what I remember around the £1500 mark possibly less .

There is considerable red tape attached to building your own trailer these days, the days of using a car or van sub frame and adding a few bits of angle are long gone Crying or Very sad my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Well aware of that, it would be a built from scratch project with new brakes, hubs, suspension etc. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

build one that uses the same hubs as the FL2, Ford hubs. Rear hubs will give you shoe brakes, using the hand-break mechanism. The Vauxhall Insignia used an electric brake motor that would couple up.

In the day, I built one with FL1 hubs ....... saves on carrying two spares.

worth contacting Matt & sally at South west Trailers in Exmouth 07403931458
They can do or have done partial delivery to other areas.
To be honest when I wanted a twin axle trailer for carryining varying loads Matt was brilliant and the spec I needed was so close to the factory measurements he built one up on a freezing cold night just so he could measure to the Millimeter and confirm it was OK.
Trailer is brilliant and I paid about £1100 quid. I have fitted a winch and ramps as well and has a removable tall canvas top.
I think you can also have mesh sides

Nice looking range, dont seem to do anything suitable for transporting a car though.
Im actually leaning towards a self build though, give me a nice project to tackle and can build it exactly as I want. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Last trailer I built was 3mm 2" box section and needed a crane to assemble.
I'm probably not the right person to ask, it was only for plastic kayaks!
