It's a lot easier to contact Bell Engineering, who will swap your diff out on an exchange basis. More cost effective also

Bells were within that range when he did mine, but I got quoted as much as £1500 when I was looking around from specialist and franchised garages

Refurbed rear diff £498 (exchange) + fitting £180 (VAT included in both). Got an appointment booked with him on 3 February to get 'Manuel' sorted!

While you are at Bells with you might as well get the Haldex serviced.

If it's of any use, Ive just been quoted £990 to get my diff replaced with one from Bell, with Haldex service. Difference is its in Edinburgh so can be done in a day with no travel issues.

Still more than I'd like to spend though Big Cry Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

Although my Haldex was serviced by Mikey near the end of last year so may not be needed. Am I right in thinking the diff can be replaced without needing to do any work/fluid replacement etc on the Haldex?

Quote from garage

"I have just spoken to Ben re the haldex service. The main reason it gets done when doing the rear diff is that the haldex oil has to be drained when doing the rear diff as they are bolted together with a seal between the two." Learned to drive in 2011.

Just back from Bell Engineering , diff swapped out.
Great service from Austin.

Car now seems very quiet, it is surprising how noisy it had become over time.
Thanks for the help from the Forum.

Garage is correct - when separating the rear diff from the Haldex all the haldex fluid runs out - the two components are only held together with 4 bolts and a big o-ring seals the haldex against the diff casing. The diff oil remains inside the diff though.

I serviced the haldex and replaced haldex and diff oil myself in 2018 - £90 for parts and oils Jules

Just got quoted £3.5k to replace the diff and Haldex!

Question is whether to take a day off work to get to Bell or find someone more local to do it or fit one from Bell. Maybe they can recommend someone closer to North London?

Looking to maybe get quotes from Grange and Brookfields, both in Barnet or Aylmer near Potters Bar. Any tips / experience?

That sounds about right for a main dealer

My advice would be to take the time out and go to Bell.......job done first time, properly.

Less than 3 hrs from London to Bewdley - an early start or b&b would be my advice.
