Hi all, I posted this at the end of a other thread about diff replacement costs, but thought it actually might warrant its own thread as may be relevant to others.

Background: I think I need a new rear diff. Drone/whine from back which increases in pitch with speed and quietens when clutch dipped.

Had 10 year service done October 2019 (car 9 years old but had the time and money). Haldex oil and filter was changed as part of that.

Now looking at getting the rear diff replaced. Engine710 in Edinburgh do diff replacements using refurbs from Bell Engineering, which is exactly what I want, however they have told me that they need to do the Haldex service at the same time because the Haldex fluid needs drained when the diff is disconnected. That service is about £150 with parts and service which is something I could do with not wasting as it was only done a few months ago.

Is the garage correct in that it needs to be done or should I be looking elsewhere?

Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....

If the Haldex was only serviced a few months ago, then IMHO it doesn't need doing again now. However, the fluid will have to be renewed as it will be lost when the diff & haldex are separated.
