LR2 3.2 Automatic Transmission leak. DYI/Video 2 Fix this?

Hey guys,

I have a 2008 XC90 with 3.2 engine same as the LR2

My automatic transmission TF-80SC has an ATF Fluid leak that comes from the valve body cover that’s on the front of the transmission. Please check the photo.

This cover doesn’t use a regular gasket. Volvo manual says to use Anaerobic Silicone.

I really appreciated if you guys pointed me to videos, pictures or a DYI of what I need to remove to get access to that part.

Thx for your time and help

Isaac

Isaac,

It looks like an aftermarket gasket is available.

Hey Paul,

Thx for the link.

My concern is that the manual says it needed to lower the subframe in order to remove the valve body cover and that's look like a PITA Big Cry

I don't know if I remove all the screws from cover, if it will move a little forward and give me enough space to clean the area and put silicone or maybe I can cut the gasket on the top part and instal it like a necklace and put some silicone on the part I cut.

Any advice?

Rgds,

Isaac

Isaac,

I haven't removed mine unfortunately.

For the LR2 which is based on the Volvo P3 chassis, I can lift the engine or transmission with a jack and disconnect the motor mounts to get more room.

For the XC90 P2 chassis, unfortunately I don't know.

The motor mounts are not the same for P2 and P3.

Good Luck

Paul

According to Wiki it is the same gearbox - has different code in different cars
