United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Galway Green
My 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE money pit

My loverly unreliable Freelander 2 2010, SD4 HSE (Green)

86K Miles:

Work to-date in 3yrs of ownership:

1: EGR Valve (within 48hrs of ownership)
2: Intercooler hose
3: Front wheel bearing
4: n/s/f drive shaft
5: Power Transfer Unit
6: Carried out low level rear diff repairs (Bearing + oil)
7: Automatic Transmission (yes...a new gearbox!)
8: DPF Pressue sensor
9: EGR Cooler repair kit
10: EGR Cooler (repair kit...didn't repair it)

Other than that....I've updated the headlights to HID original LR headlights and use the up-down switch to adjust beam hight. Also upgraded the front discs to the v6 carriers and discs.

I would not be surprised if it’s 86,000 miles 2nd time around the clock with all those faults you have listed, the FL2 does have its problems but looks like you have been one unlucky owner.

listed items 3-10 are since March...this year. Inchescape have had the car for 9 weeks this year...

Thank god for the extended warranty...although it's taken 4wks this time to get the warranty company to accept payment for the EGR Cooler. They called it normal wear and tear. I asked them to explain how an item that doesn't move...wears...or tears...in the end they agreed.

Im gobsmacked frankly! Mine is now over 7 years old, and has cost me one set of pads all round, a set of tyres and a battery. And nothing else...its been fantastic. The most reliable vehicle I have owned in over 30 years.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

As you can see from my 'Sign Off Box' below, I had a FL2 MY2010 for several years. (VN60TJV)
It ran like clockwork, and apart from annual service only needed tyres, brake pads and discs, a door lock and the 'Fuel Pump Wiring' fix.
It was in very good condition when I sold it, and went on sale with a new MOT just after.

However, I am puzzled, as according to the GOV website, it was never taxed (or SORN) ever again, and never submitted to another MOT.

I wonder if it was exported?

We did a straw poll at work on previous cars that people had traded-in and we couldn’t find any that were still on the road. I’m guessing that most cars traded-in to dealers must be being exported in bulk to Africa. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Santorini Black

I have a very early MY2011 and have had most of the same issues. Only at 71000 miles on mine.

Also add in a new clutch. Think some of them are just lemons. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

Well I got the car back last week with a new EGR Cooler fitted.

The stuttering (https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic33252.html) now appears to have completely gone...I'm not sure if it's the colder weather or this latest fix...but for now it's working great. Also...the fuel economy has jumped up by approx 8mpg and I can't hear the turbo spooling like it did.

Fingers crossed...

Just had mine serviced by the local LR main dealer, they also suggested your point 6 "Carry out low level rear diff repairs" , quoting... £661!

Did you have yours done by an Indy? I'm not convinced there is even a diff whine as the test drive mechanic suggested, but it was on brand new tyres (literally 50 miles on them) and they have a bit of road noise..
