Foolishly I tried to extract more light out of my 2013 halogen headlights by fitting halfords HB3 9005 bulbs, all went well for 2 months and then one blew followed by the other the next day. No problem I thought get new bulbs and all will be well, new standard bulbs fitted and the o/s was stuck on high beam.change bulbs again, still stuck on high beam.
Today I decided to remove headlight again and try to resolve the problem, the headlight uses a shutter to change to dipped beam, the shutter is sprung loaded to dip and then there is a solenoid in the headlights that moved the shutter for full beam. It's difficult to see but the edge is possible to see and move,( I used a child's paintbrush handle small enough to fit through the gap and being wooden/ plastic does not scratch anything) it appears that apiece of glass from the blown bulb was stopping the shutter returning to the dipped position.
A new light is £450 plus, so a free fix. Sorry I didn't get any pictures, trying to gt it done before the rain comes back again.

the 2013> Halogen lights are renowned for blowing bulbs (same for the Evoque and some early RRS of the same era)

there was an LR tech bulletin released to put in-line resistors into the lights to prolong the lifespan of the bulbs but its not a definitive fix and LR will no longer apply the bulletin.

there are 2 choices really to this
1. persevere and keep buying new bulbs as it aint going to get any better
2. upgrade the headlights to Xenon units

there are tons and tons of threads on here about HB3 bulbs

Helston, so weird reading this post as exactly the same thing happened to me this week - I blew a bulb about two months ago so swapped them for those same Halfords HB3s. Drivers side blew a couple of days ago and found a big piece of glass lodged in the shutter, which was preventing it from dipping. Now the passenger side has gone too! Haven't got round to taking it out yet to see what damage has been done.

I actually went back to Halfrauds with the remnants of the first exploded bulb and they gave me a replacement no fuss, but I'm reluctant to fit it as I'm not keen to spend another hour picking shards of glass out of my headlamp in another two months time. Might just go back again and try and get my money back. Surely they should last longer than two months (about 4000 miles)?

I'm now tempted to try LEDs instead - my thinking is that they shouldn't get as hot as halogens, and ought to last a lot longer. I've ordered a set of Novsight LEDs from Amazon, so will try them and see what sort of light they put out. Anyone tried these?

I thought Halfords had stopped selling them if you told the it was for FL2. I’ve still got the ‘candles’ in mine from a LR dealer, but they last about 2 years. On my 3 rd set now

Any feedback on this kit yet please? SWMBO has just come home & I noticed only one headlamp working so time to replace the bulb & looking for something better than standard fitment & don't fancy shelling out for LR xenon units. TIA.

Thanks, would be interested in your honest opinion of them as an alternative to the HB3s - having read various threads I've just bought genuine parts bulbs at over £20 each so cost of the conversion kit is only a couple of bulb changes!
